The first Elvis movie I saw, and also the first movie in a theater that I saw, was Jailhouse Rock. Our church youth group went to see it, and I think I was more impressed by the whole experience than I was by the movie.
Like ET, I didn't like Elvis's acting and I thought it was just a vehicle to promote his songs. And, I might add, I didn't even like to watch him perform, but I did like most of his songs. I could never relate to those screaming and fainting girls who got so excited over him, or any other performer.
I don't really have a favorite Elvis movie or song, and no, I've not been to Graceland.

My hometown was a tiny community in central Illinois. No movie theater, but in the summer, we did occasionally have a movie shown outdoors on the side of a building.
Joe, on the other hand, grew up in the cities of Salem, MA and Charleston, SC and movies were readily available. He sold newspapers from the age of 8, and after giving his mother his income, he was allowed to keep a bit of it and often used that to go to the movies.

Lovely photos. I have never visited Gracelands. My sister and her family did and enjoyed the experience.

I don't have a favourite Elvis movie I didn't really like any of them that much. Sure love most of his songs though.

I am a fan of Elvis music but wasn't a huge fan of his movies. Someone I knew back in 1977 was a huge fan of Elvis and went to all of his concerts whenever she could get there. She had a shrine in her bedroom of all his memorabilia. The day he died she was so upset she had to take the day off from work. I never knew anyone that was so dedicated to him as she was. After he died she then got attached to any impersonators of him.
It was sad when he died as he had so much going for him. But that is what happens sometimes when fame and money takes a hold of you. Blue Suede Shoes was one of my favorites and there were numerous other songs as well that I liked.

BTW nice group pic of y'all. You must have longevity in your family as you don't appear to have aged at all since 2002.

So sad Kofla...We had a big shooting in Nova Scotia last month in which 23 people were killed. It was the largest shooting in history. The guy came out of the blue but apparently had been planning to do this for 2 years. Our federal government has outlawed several kinds of guns. It was put into effect immediately right after the shooting. It seems down your way the blacks seem to be targeted more than anyone else.

Interesting. I was never an Elvis fan but his untimely death still came as a shock. Reading CP's post gave me more insight into Elvis the person, thanks for that. Sudden fame and the use of alcohol/drugs as coping mechanisms has sadly seen the premature death of several rock/pop stars - such a tragic waste of life. I was very much a fan of Jimi Hendrix who died at age 27. I loved his intimate relationship with the guitar/focus and how it could take you on an electric ride into uncharted regions. Voyager extraordinaire . He too was humble/ordinary. Just listened to 'Foxey Lady' in tribute to this great artist.

Kofla, I just wanted to apologise. Your 'Throwback' theme was about visiting Elvis' home 'Graceland' with a group of colleagues while in Memphis Tennessee, and while relevant (premature death), I unnecessarily went off on a tangent praising a musician I greatly admired. Sorry about that.

Elvis spent some Army time in Germany. In Februar 1960 he stopped at the Marktplatz in my little home town because of a problem with the Jeep. While waiting for the mechanics coming from Grafenwöhr - one of the biggest training areas in Germany - he spent the waiting time in the nearby pub. The news spread like wildfire and the pub was crowded with fans immediately. We got that very exciting news by my father's helper who told my mum: Mrs. A Ex Presley is at the "Golden Lamm" (the name of the pub). I sooo wanted to go there but my Mum didn t allow it as exactly that day I couldn t go to school because of sickness. Her words: If you were too sick to go to school you are too sick to go there. She very often had to hear that she spoilt my possibility to see Elvis in person. For our local journalist was it that the highlight in his career. Over years he was in loose correspondence with Elvis and lots of pictures can be found in the net. Grafenwöhr established a little Elvis-Museum a few years ago were also some of his letters are displayed.

I agree with you there Kofla. We have a lot of mental disease in Canada and until they get a handle on this shootings of this magnitude will continue. Unfortunately the innocent people get killed. The states has certainly had their share of shootings.

I have been to Graceland several times. I liked Elvis but was appalled at the women crying, some very hard at the gravesite.

In my mind I still can see his Jungle Room in the house. Oh well, that was Elvis.
