I'm glad you were able to enjoy pleasant times in a peaceful country setting, and had such a lovely park in which to escape the bustle of the city. Although Lulu and I live in two totally different types of area, the one thing that we share in common is the peace of our surroundings. Some folks enjoy living in closer proximity to others and all that the city or town has to offer, I don't think I could ever be one of them.
As we go through life, just doing the things we do, I don't believe we understand how we are collecting memories. Then, years later, like now, those memories are brought to mind by a photo, an aroma, a song, or any other little trigger, and we are sometimes transported in our mind back to those times.
I find that happens more and more as I age.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Some of my fondest memories from my childhood out Chicago are the visits we made to our cousins' farm in Zion near the Wisconsin border. My cousins didn't do the farming, there was a couple that took care of that, the husband worked in Chicago and the wife was a school teacher. I had a great time wandering around with the two kids and often wasn't too glad to be back in our suburb although we had a lovely house there.
I didn't have a big park to cycle in but there was the Skokie Lagoon and it was safe to wander around in those days. However negative my childhood often seems, there were still good times.

I used to like cities such as Boston but now I'm much happier away from the hustle and bustle. The Cape off season is perfect. During the summer, though, it's all about figuring out how to live as close to normally as possible while trying to avoid crowds of vacationers. It's a science!

A day without dance is .... just kidding. I have no idea!

I grew up in the country, so I know exactly what you are talking about. I left home and moved to the city when I was fifteen to find work . I grew to love city life and I settled for good here.

When our children were young we spent most of their summer holidays at home in the country, and they loved all the freedom and space. They still reminisce about the wonderful times they spent there.

Lovely blog Koffla. it sure brought back many happy memories for me.

I live a block from Stanley Park in Vancouver but I don't always make use of it. In the 70's and 80's I use to spend my weekends at Third Beach. I would ride my bicycle there and spend both days on the beach. Getting my tan was utmost important to me. Once the early 90's arrived I decided it was time to stop spending so much time in the sun. Getting a tan when you are younger was a great thing but as I aged I decided I didn't want my skin to look like shoe leather. Now I like to sit by Lost Lagoon and enjoy the quietness and solitude.

You're looking very much a gypsy king caught in a time warp.
I too enjoy inhaling forest scents. The scent of the invasive lantana bush is very distinctive in tropical rainforests; I find it intoxicating and triggers early childhood memories of Indonesia. The rambutan's scent (Indonesian fruit similar to lychees) has the same effect . :- )
