When you're getting old, like me, you no longer have the burden of keeping up with the latest twists and turns in popular music like Disco. You know that no-one is ever going to be better than Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and the divine Ella Fitzgerald.

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Back in those days, although it was not my favorite music and dance, it fascinated me. I went with my sister and another gal to a disco place in the city.
I didn't dance, but enjoyed watching everyone else, some of them were REALLY good.
Here's a compliment for you...... sometimes, it's hard to tell your photo-shopped pictures from the real thing.

I used to love disco's ! Once I got married I slowed down some. Played it at home though. Most parties were fun. Then when I stopped drinking, I was a designated driver. Designated driver made me an old fart ! LMAO

Lordy I used to love to party and booze!

Now I have a drink of Guinness once a week when we go to Lunner.....lunch and dinner at Ruby Tuesday's. I wind up giving Alfie half of it.

In a bit we will be on our way there.

We just got home from church.

I just burst out laughing thinking, church then out to eat and drink

Like Mrsjoe, I wasn't a big disco fan either, but I did like a lot of the songs out at that time.

Great photo, looking good in white. Lol

I loved disco and used to dance and teach it back in the 70s. I was really sad when the radio stations stopped playing disco music around 1979. It seemed like such an abrupt change but at the time I had no idea of why. Now with the ease of research on the internet it's possible to read about the factors behind disco's demise. Have you ever heard of “Disco Demolition Night”? I hadn't until some recent research. Fascinating reading!

Back in the day, discos were populated by dancers who enjoyed freestyle dancing and those who enjoyed partner dancing. I was one of the latter. The music was typically fast and electronic which was great for freestyle. But I remember sitting out most of the super fast songs and waiting for songs that had a little smoother sound and therefore were better for “touch disco” such as “Native New Yorker” by Odyssey, “Right In The Socket” by Shalamar, and “One More Minute” by Saint Tropez.

After the radio stations pulled the plug on disco, some disco clubs shut down and others changed their format to match what was being played on the radio at the time. By around 1983 it was hard to find places to dance partner-style disco. Most dance studios kept the genre alive though back-burnered.

Over the last 20 years or so, there has been a resurgence of interest in the genre which is now referred to as “hustle”. The music these days is less electronic and more funk, soul, R&B and pop. Some examples of contemporary hustle tunes are “Another Love Song” by Ne-Yo, “Bye Baby” by Danity Kane, and “Take You Dancing” by Jason Derulo. You can still hear the disco beat but it is a little more mellow. Dance competitions still exist, notably the annual New York Hustle Congress. To see a great example of what disco has morphed into, try searching on “Billy and Veronica hustle”. Amazing!

A day without dance is .... just kidding. I have no idea!
