I agree, looklook. There were examples of it throughout the documentary and sometimes I couldn't understand what was being said but I could always appreciate the pleasant sound of the voices.

I have a Jamaican friend and frequently he will get on the phone and I can barely understand what he is saying.

I know what you mean, starwomyn. It can be difficult and it's even harder to understand when on the phone because there are no facial expressions to use as a guide.

Masks can make communication very difficult for me as a hearing impaired person. I rely on facial expressions to understand what a person is saying.

If you're interested, Koffla, you can check out “The Language and Life Project” channel on Youtube. They have full episodes there including the one I mentioned in my post. I was surprised and happy to learn that The Language and Life Project is based in North Carolina and they have produced other documentaries specific to that state. That's of interest to me because that's where my father's family settled. Thanks for commenting and have a great day!

I agree, Maudie. When I moved into my new condo a few years ago I didn't have high hopes for the number of channels I'd get because cable was just basic and included with my condo fee. To my surprise and delight I found out that I get five different PBS channels so there is never a shortage of documentaries to watch!
