I guess this post qualifies as a rant. Sorry!

Rant all you want, just don't start raving! I totally agree, that driver should have stopped and inquired about how you felt after the fall.

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

This brings back those memories of stories of women being assaulted, beaten, and killed while neighbors closed their windows, curtains, and their hearts and just walked away. It is a said statement on our society that this happens.
In your case, what if you could not have gotten back up? What if your cell phone were in your pocket, broken, and you couldn't call for help? Perhaps that woman had limited mobility, but she should, at the very least, put down her window and called out to you to see if you needed help and could she call someone for you. I believe that is the least I would have done, and maybe tried to get to you and help however I could.
However, there is a great fear of strangers these days. I have been stranded along the roadway, already called for assistance and prayed nobody else would stop because I was afraid the wrong kind of person would stop.

Perhaps she saw that you were OK and chose not to bother you.....I have had people asking me if I was OK, expressing concern when the situation didn't call for it......Busy-bodies always looking for an excuse to tut tut over someone......Perhaps her empathy extended to not wanting to embarrass you unless it was necessary.

I think that's how I would have handled it too, MrsJoe. I would have put the window down and called out just to make sure the other person was ok.

Perhaps, but if it were me and I saw a stunned, slowly moving, hunched over, limping person I probably would have taken the risk of embarrassing her. Everyone's different though, and it's certainly a plausible explanation.

First of all.... I'm sooo glad that you didn't break anything!! Big Warm Hugsss~~

In my opinion, any person with an iota of sensibility could have at least rolled down the window and asked if they could either help you or get someone to help you. No excuses!!

I have fallen and been helped up by strangers. I sure appreciated their help.... and the concern expressed by others who rushed over to help.

Glad you are ok Pearls. A fall leaves one feeling very vulnerable and shaken. The very least she could have done was asked if you were alright. She sounds like a very uncaring person.

I fell a few times over the years. Thank goodness there were kind people there to come to my assistance.

Thanks, Maudie. "Shaken" is a perfect way to describe what it feels like right after a fall. As I was writing this I was searching for the right word and you found it!

Seeing you were not unconscious they would have been recognised stealing your stuff perhaps? Bad thought but .....

Pearls, the experience is surely painful. Forgive the person. God is there to save us all in such a situation. Thank God. I am glad you are okay.

Thanks, Glumo! I will try to be more careful. My daughter gave me a gift of ice cleats a few years ago. I am afraid to tell her about my fall because the first thing she will ask is "Were you wearing the ice cleats I gave you?". Ummm, nope, lol!

I'm glad to hear, ET, that you were able to get back into your house safely after your fall. Falls are so scary. My mother broke her hip when she fell on ice, and the memory of her experience flashed back as I lay there on the ground contemplating if/how I was going to get myself upright again.

I understand the advice given by your senior complex to call 911 because if the person who fell has a broken bone, any movement can cause additional injury and pain and could make things worse instead of better. I think if I were in that situation I'd call 911 on my cell while at the side of the injured person so I could follow any instructions by the dispatcher until help arrived.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, looklook. I was puzzled by the motorist's behavior but I don't hold a grudge against her. I blogged about the incident because I hoped that by bringing attention to this person's inaction I might inspire readers to get involved if they were faced with a similar situation in the future. Like MrsJoe said it is a sad statement about our society when people close their curtains and their hearts and just walk away.

If you have a history of falls you might want to consider a medical alert device that you can wear. I certainly will ! I work around very large livestock on an isolated ranch and have decided that this is needed. Please consider it.

Thanks for the concern, cayman! I have been thinking of checking out a medical device because I live alone and there is a history of stroke in my family. Balance-wise, though, I'm good ... dance instructor ... control over core and center of gravity being fundamental skills. This particular fall was on pavement that looked wet but was frozen. Not a single granule of ice melt to be found. Have contacted my condo association to step up the parking lot maintenance!

The last time I fell, it was the entrance way of the dollar store. There were a number of folks who want to help me get back up. There is a certain way that I have to do it.

Falling is so scary. I'm glad to hear there were people around to help you back up and I hope they gave you the opportunity to let them know your method!
