I have been away from the study of psychology since my college years but have never lost the interest in it so I was thrilled when I stumbled across Vedantam's radio program, “Hidden Brain”.

A day without dance is .... just kidding. I have no idea!

Very interesting.
Years ago friends and I would joke about everything we didn't like being a communist plot but today it is amazing how many actually think most everything in the news is false & a conspiracy against them.

You tube.......... it's not just music anymore!

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Pat I find YouTube so interesting as you can now find everything on it. If you miss something on TV and want to watch it most likely it will be on YouTube. I am not much into Psychology stuff so I don't think I will be looking this up. Thanks for posting it anyway Pearl.

It sounds rather interesting, but maybe a wee bit heavy for me. Thanks anyway Pearl.

I hope you can find it, Koffal! I remember a blog you wrote a few months ago about smart people falling for conspiracy theories. Knowing that you are interested in that topic makes me feel that you'd enjoy this interview.

I agree, Tx. Part of the interview addresses exactly what you mentioned in your comment about how many people are affected. I'm paraphrasing here but Vedantam basically points out the difference between dealing with one dangerously deluded person (of course one should call for help) versus large numbers of dangerously deluded people (we should work to change the environment that caused the delusions to spring up).

So true! This interview was originally broadcast on cable as part of a global-affairs interview program. As I watched it I was reminded of many past blogs on here so I knew it would be of interest to some of our blog buddies. I was hoping to be able to share the interview so I searched Youtube and was happy to find it there so I could recommend it.

You're welcome, Maudie. Vedantam seems to know his stuff when it comes to psychology but what I like most about him is his skill at journalism. He takes heavy topics and unpacks them in a way that makes them interesting. (But I'm not trying to twist your arm to listen to the interview!)

I must tell my ex daughter-in- law to check it out, I know she would enjoy it. She just got her bachelor degree of science in sociology a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the heads up......I watch Amanpour and Co. regularly......This interview is pretty insubstantive......He doesn't have anything new to say......There are a lot of factors contributing to the mass delusion that is going on in the US right now and Vedantam has taken advantage of the situation in order to sell a book, more than having any explanations or solutions......

The mass delusion situation going on in the US right now has it's roots in Christian Fundamentalism.....The states where the delusions are most common are the most religious states.....Trump's followers are almost entirely Evangelical Christians......the more out-to-lunch the better...........

I was horrified by some of what Vedantam said.....He tells us about himself reverting to delusions in order to self-sooth, as if to normalize it.....He even used the old cliche/trope 'no Atheists in fox-holes"......claiming that he's an Atheist but prayed for healing of his eye.......using a personal anecdote to normalize delusional thinking......He seems to lack substance and the interviewer seemed to be of the same opinion.
