speaking of fishing

Tx made a post about going fishing and it reminded me of the nicest thing my ex ever did.
My father passed away at 83, a life long fishing enthusiast. I spent countless hours on lakes and streams with him fishing. As well as stocking a pond where we would raise brown and rainbow trout to release into the creek to make it better for fishing....a little giving back. My dad drove the seven hour stretch to come take his grand fishing on the weekends (he loved fishing here).
My sister was cataloguing and selling everything she could, and somehow the ex negotiated the dirty, grimy, half broken, used up fishing gear out of her grubby little hands. More than likely even though she saw it unfit, it cost him a lot of $$$. In other words, the stuff that was well loved and used often. He took all this fishing gear and spent much of the year cleaning, sorting, organizing, and repairing.
That Christmas, he brought out shined up old steel tackle boxes and ready to go revamped poles for everyone. Each box had in quotes "Take Me Fishing" Grandpa Owen.
Just yesterday his great grandson Drew, who was just a baby when his great grandpa passed, was out trying out his great grandfather's lures. He caught two (lures suck), His little brother caught 9, and his sister caught 7. Worms rule!!!
Even an Ex can occasionally knock one out of the ball park.

It has been over a decade, I have to believe that whatever he got up to, Grandpa Owen got to see his Great Grands out having a blast fishing. Not a millionaire's legacy, but definitely the legacy of a rich man

Beautiful story. It's not really about fishing per se, it's about family and traditions. I hope more families are establishing them in this day and age.

My Grandpa always had the time to take me fishing.... I wasn't the best student but we had our time together.

Lovely post of memories of your Grandpa. I spent many happy hours fishing with my Grandad. Happy days for sure.
