Consistently great watermelon is one of pleasures that I found in the USA that I have never experienced in Canada.....I have, on occasion been lucky enough to have tasted good watermelon here, but it can't be relied on.....It often tastes like slightly sweet, pink cucumbers......But an American watermelon is so much better........I've heard that Greek watermelons are the best, but I've never tasted them......

Your friends Alex and Max sure know how to arrive in style I love watermelon (especially the seedless variety) and a summer must-have. Rind watermelon pickles sounds interesting and I look forward to the recipe. Happy summer days to you and friends

July the 2th indeed, and we survived the illegal fireworks yesternight. The noise scared the dogs. couldn't see anything, but didn't look out the window either. It's something that I a not interested in because it is illegal. It had to be very close by due to the extreme loud bangs, shrills and whizzes.

Good to hear that Max and Alex arrived safely in their old wooden biplane. I know the 4 of you will be having a fun loaded weekend. Please be careful in all you do.

Watermelon is a delightful treat. The best ones we get here are imported from Moses Lake, Washington.. The smaller ones that can be bought year round come from MX and central American countries. They are not nearly as sweet and are a lot smaller.

The 2 little doggies are with me again tonight, one to go home shortly. They both helped me shorten the grass today, and then the one ran away, but was caught later. It is supposed to rain tonight, tomorrow and Monday, so I wanted to get the grass shortened before that. Severe thunder watch tonight, but sky is mostly clear right now.

I looked at the melons today, but with strawberries, blueberries, bananas and white fleshed peaches already at home, I decided that melons should wait until the others are used. I remember those days of cutting open a beautiful ripe melon outside and handing out the slices for everyone to enjoy. Now, I cut them up and put them in the refrigerator. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

We have the rind separated and soaking, we're just too tired to do them tonight. I'll try to post the recipe with pictures.
