All Saints Day

Many branches of the Christian faith recognize and celebrate November First as a day dedicated to all those held in high esteem as a "Saint" elected by the Church and God as a Saint.

I went early this morning taking part to honor those whose lives lead them to the ultimate "Goodness" that they are next to the Almighty in Heaven. ~~~~ You know me I like to toss a monkey wrench into the mechanism .... I can't always avoid Politics & Religion~~~~ sigh ~~~~ These "Saints" were selected by men -- people... who make mistakes.....~~~ Here I stand thinking ~~~~
Almighty God who sees into the hearts of men, knows their thoughts, words, and deeds... has probably seen an untold multitude of Saints whose lives of goodness, charity, and piety went unnoticed by men ... but seen by his Angels and the Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Divine Being we worship as God has rewarded them calling them to his presence.

So much for my "Sermonette" Pray for us poor sinners that the Almighty might forgive us our trespasses and deliver us from all temptations.

Now I must go up on the roof in an attempt to repair some considerable damage to a section of shingles.

In Germany "All Saints Day" is celebrated in those states where the majority of the people are Catholics. All shops are closed, and the people participate in Church Ceremonies.
In the evening they light candles on the graves of their deceased family members. I grew up in a Lutheran Protestant Congregation and don't know details about All Saints Day.
Today I know how important it is to keep Christian Faith and traditions alive......

As a follower Of Martin Luther our congregation still observes All Saints Day. It's thanks to Marty's questioning that I arrive at my stated conclusions.

I grew up protestant. But raised my children as Catholics like their father was. Me being in the Mother's Club, I attended many Catholic traditions, school trips, luncheons, fashion shows, services, spent hundreds of dollars at Chinese auctions and lead a table at craft shows. Traditions r beautiful. Sad that very few even teach their children tradition anymore. Now it's a commercial, technology and instead of "all I want for Christmas" turned into " I WANT IT ALL" for Christmas.

So how do you differentiate between "tradition" and bad habits that we now understand are unhealthy ?.......

I grew up in the Lutheran Church as well......My best friend's little brother was Gay and was near the brink of suicide because of the church's teachings and harassment.........I asked the pastor about it during our teen catechism meeting and he turned purple and ranted for an hour about the evils of "sexual deviants"...........I thought of my gentle, sweet friend in the throes of despair because he was ostracized, bullied and condemned by his church elders and his peers..........and I instantly transformed into an Atheist.......

I remember my granny used to leave a candle burning in the window on all saints and all souls day. Back then nearly every house would have a candle lighting in the window. I continue to follow that tradition.

Our Lutheran Is pretty much Catholic... we just don't have a Pope in Rome running the show... I Go to either Church for my spiritual needs.

I am Lutheran and very much Gay... The narrow mindedness seems to be in many versions of the "Religious" experience.

Seems like a reasonable tradition to maintain.

I was also raised in Lutheran tradition, and on this day, a lit candle was placed in the window overnight. Because of the way most religions shunned gays back in those days, I decided to live my life as an agnostic; spiritual, but not tied to any named religion. Some congregations have now been coerced into changing their closed-mindedness, and become more accepting of sexual orientations different from long-held tradition.

I hope you were successful in your roof repair, and were careful up there. It is snowing here today and we are in a heavy snowfall warning area. I got out a ladder this afternoon to clean leaves out of a plugged rain gutter at a friend's house. When coming back down the ladder, I slipped and fell onto the hood of his car, leaving a dent. I was not injured, but I can't say the same for his car.

I think our Lutheran stayed Catholic... they just tossed out the Pope and let priests marry.... I Go mostly to keep piece in the family....
