Saddened

This afternoon we were saddened by the news of the passing of our rug merchant friend in Egypt.

His family had made our stay in Egypt so delightful. His translated for me and helped the poor ditzy blond through the bustling city.

Took us out and about the pyramids.

Making certain we had a great time and were not taken advantage of as "Rich American Tourists" We were invited into his home to share meals and fun times.

Their family made my Birthday on the Nile a lifetime memorable event. YES That is what Egyptian Birthday cakes look like! Their dad bought it for me and had us in their home.

Our beautiful Parlor rug came from them.... The massive 12' X 16' has graced our Parlor ever since. It was shipped all the way from Cairo to our home causing a stir by it's immense beauty.

LOL ! Yes that is Ruby peeking outfrom the den doorway keeping an eye on me and what I am up to. The Ice Storm has passed us by with our illustrious DOT clearing and salting down the main arteries getting traffic flowing again. We have trucks loaded and ready to go tomorrow. I will post more on my Birthday on the Nile in May. Ruby is resting her head on a boy's sized prayer rug I also purchased the REAL prices there a fraction of what we'd paid in the USA. Rest in Peace our dear Egyptian friend.

We have so much beautiful stuff from Egypt... and the ancient coins found in the dessert. You'll love the place. My aunt Betty was with Harvard University and helped excavate... they found out she liked putting puzzles together.... They set her down for many years setting pottery fragments together for the museum.... to her dying day.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your Egyptian friend, Bret. You will always have the memories each time to look down upon your beautiful Parlor rug. Please add me to the condolence list, even though I only knew the man through you. You have often spoke highly of him and his family.

Roger I most certainly will. We got his sons out of Egypt and into Texas where they are safe. I would wager the boys will try to get their mom to Texas not that their dad has passed. I been working on JD's B-day present here today.

It was a fairly nice day, 30F, clear, calm. I was involved in trying to guess the location of the village water main leak, based on evidence found on the surface. The other utilities were located and marked today in the area where we think the break is. Tonight I wired up another 240V electric heater and took it over to the neighbor's place and installed it after pulling out the stove to use its 240V receptacle. He had not plugged in the heater I wired up for him yesternight, so I pulled out the dryer and plugged that one in too. With both of those big heaters running, the living room was a comfortable 70F. His basement flooded again when the float got stuck on the sump pump and no one noticed it. I helped him stabilize the pump so it wouldn't move when the motor kicked in. Looked at a couple new shows in the TV.

We hug at about 1C here after the rain/sleet moved out. Got the roads cleared but a chance of snow. Max gave JD a rare German artifact from WWII I am ,making a display for it....If I can stay awake...LOL and keep the place going.

The cake was delicious... the candied fruit was better than frosting. Also thank you for your condolences.

Nice when sheetheads like you come in for a disparaging comment.
