American Indians :

i read books on American Indian Cultures..i wonder what our world would be like if the government of the U.S.would have tried to get along with the Indians instead of trying to kill them all off..with the Indian belief of mother earth we should have adopted their belief ...i have read of some horrible things that were done to the indians..i am part Indian and when i read what was done to the Indians it makes me cry..on my moms side of the family i am part cherokee..on my dads side i am part choctow and (chicashaa)..mispelled i think..i don't have much respect for the white man as it was them that waged the war on Indians..then again the U.S will attack anything that stand in there way of getting what they want..

Protecting the Earth is always a good thing.
I would find it difficult to lump all Europeans (past or present) together.
It is important to be of the 'good mind'. I learned this from a dear native friend.

History is full of injustices. Not just those perpetrated by the white man. Please don't lump all Americans or White people into a group that treated the Indians poorly. Don't place all Germans in a group that hated Jews. I could go on but am probably in deep enough.

American Indians waged war on each other. Sioux killed Crow, Cree and Blackfoot fought each other, and the Mohawks almost wiped out the Hurons.

The Blackfoot and Cree don't get along to this day.

The Europeans had the advantages that there was more of them, and they had better technology.

People have been pushing other people off the land since time began...

Your indians pushed off the land other indians or native peoples where your ancestor's resided till the white man pushed those Indians off.....

The indians invented torture against other indians and later aganist whites( Tecumseh, a Shawnee Chief witnessed one such burning alive of an enemy from a different tribe and swore that would never take part in another.) That did not stop him from murdering anyone outside his tribe or killing any white man he could. The indians took slaves when they felt like it and killed them as they felt like it..Inside the tribe there was a code they lived by, outside the tribe...anything and everything was not only acceptable, it was expected in order to earn the respect of other tribe members..

We, (the native indians and whites) got along just fine , the issue was a clash of cultures. Ours was taking free land, farming and commerce, Indians was no land ownership and hunting with some gathering (farming)

Its called the process of natural selection...The strong survive, the weaker do not....

Agree with you bike. My grandmother was Cherokee. I live in the Southwest, just off the Apache Res. Let's all just get along and don't worry about "what was done". Go out and make a difference. Look at each individual for what they can contribute and what they are. We learn from history and then we make it better! Cheers.

Why then is our Southwest history, our Pueblos and Reservations, are still here and thriving when Native American culture on the other side of the Mississippi, with the exception of the Cherokee, has almost disappeared? Don't think the Spanish were nearly as cruel and responsible for wiping out the culture, as the Anglos.

I read the book called Aztec which though a historical novel, nonetheless is shocking in its description of how the conquistadores treated native people.
Archaeological evidence indicates that the Spaniards had help from native groups that were in conflict with the Aztecs and the Incas. These groups allied themselves with the Spaniards just as in North America the Mohawks allied themselves with the British to the detriment of the Huron.

The Spanish were far too few on the ground to conquer South and Central America without local help. They exploited the divisions among the native groups as all invaders do.

We don't hear of the native involvement in the wars against Aztecs and Incas because the accounts we have were written mostly by the Spanish. They exaggerated their own feats and minimized those of their native allies.
