Having worked in a few offices over the years, I would NEVER have showed up dressed like that!

Not my idea of "business casual" but what do I know? Not my idea of office language either but I am a dithering old lady.

Nope, nope, nope. Even when our crowd-- including supervisor --wore nice jeans to work -- 5+ years ago, never never with the midriff showing. Nice sandals in warm weather, but no flip-flops. I guess we were always business casual, sometimes khakis, occasionally dresses for some. This was in a public school system, usually in buildings with no AC, not an office, much less Fortune 500.

Over!!! It is so good to see you posting. I'm sorry that Joe and I have not had the pleasure of meeting you in person.

Sometimes I take issue with professional dress for women that seems to dictate short, sleeveless sheath dresses for women, while men still wear suits. I like seeing suits on women, too, whether with skirts or pants.

ET, it is usually nice to take a walk down memory lane but sometimes it causes my eyes to leak.

WOW ET ... I worked in corporate (private label) for a large food company... and prior to that other companies, including Hershey Canada (oh yes, the chocolate company) when they had their Canadian head office in Toronto. I wore suits & high heels, or dress pants with matching tops. Never did I see anyone dressed like the lady you described OMG. I do remember when they first introduced casual Fridays; at the onset I found it difficult to adapt but when I did, I knew the difference between casual & sloppy in the workplace!!

Back in the 60's women were not allowed to wear pants in the work place. I recall when we first were allowed to wear them they had to be a coordinating outfit. It was suits, skirts and blouses and dresses. We also wore pantyhose or stockings even in the hottest weather in the summer time. We did not have A/C where I worked. Presenting a professional image was most important.

Since my working days are past I seldom dress up anymore. I know I need to do another clean out in my closet and get rid of more stuff. When I go out for dinner it is casual. No more dates with guys that took me to fancy restaurants. We live in a very casual society. But guess for me comfort is built for speed.....LOL! I keep my hair up and always have a minimal of makeup on so at least I look somewhat chic presentable.
