I watch 'What NOT to wear' on TLC as a wake up call early in the morning.

This morning I heard the hosts of the show tell a subject, "You're 40 years old! Too old to roll your jeans."

WHAT??? 79 years old and STILL turn a cuff on my straight-legged jeans!! 'Fashion sense' doesn't necessarily ALWAYS make sense to me, and I don't let it rule me. I don't believe that 'dressing your age' means must 'age their dress'.

I may be an old granny, BUT …. I refuse to dress like . I dress for comfort AND fit. There are many a trendy fashion statements I completely bypass because they don't suit me. There's wisdom in knowing the difference, I think. still comfortable in Burmudas and flipflops when the weather calls for it, and not ashamed of baring my legs. They still work for me. They hold me up and they're not unsightly. LOL

How do YOU feel about trendy fashions dictating what you wear?

I'm not necessarily afraid of thunder storms, but I DON'T like the LOUD claps of thunder accompanied by the torrential rains I'm hearing right now. I'm gettiing off line. Cya later.

I don't dress anything like the befores or the afters on that show, and even though I'll be 70 next month, I still get compliments on how I dress every day. I have long hair and wear clothes, accessories and jewellery that I like. I have stopped caring what people think. On that show they dress every single woman the exact same way according to the same old rules and they all usually end up with the exact same hair cut and makeup.

TREND SETTING started back in the 1950's with the golden age of television when Madison Avenue Executives discovered that Advertising could sell just about anything they wanted it too!

Shown to the masses and represented as to what was cool and in fashion, like sheep those wanting to belong in main stream America flocked with real paper money to BUY THEMSELVES INTO ACCEPTANCE!

The Marlboro man, see the USA in your Chevrolet, plop plop fizz fizz and Crest with fluoride were among the leaders on small tv screens everywhere!

Oh the horrors of those pot bellied out of shape mid fifties hair shedding in Robert Hall suits men that called the shots for staying young and in tune and, looking good.

Being a non conformist is being your own person!!

So I'm willing to guess that Taurus when rolling up her jeans cuffs, won't anytime soon be wearing that 10 karat gold teenybopper ankle bracelet advertised on American Bandstand for only $ 7.95!

I really don't pay much attention myself, BUT I can tell you when I leave from my little backwards city in central Wisconsin and land in Arizona, I feel dated and HAVE to shop! LOL

I hear you loud and clear, Bijou. I can tell you now that I no longer have to go to the work place on a daily basis, much of my wardrobe is purchased from consignment shops and even Goodwill or St. Vincent's. I am frequently complimented on my attire. I wish I had all the bucks I put on my back when I was teaching school!

I was having hey day cleaning the "old Stuff" from my closet today. A lot of my stuff is dated and some of the stuff goes way back and some of it I wore when I went to work. I decided it was time to clean out. Plus we are having junk days this weekend and they take just about anything. I made a small dent in my closet. Some of the other stuff I will take to the 2nd hand store. I don't have any of those pipe leg jeans. I like a little stretch in my jeans as I think they suit me best.
