Leaving containers of white vinegar around won't help.....use mild apple-cider vinegar , put a half inch or so in the bottom of a glass, add a few drops of dish soap, which will break the surface-tension, then cover it with plastic wrap and poke a few holes in the membrane so they can't get out.......I find that screaming loudly helps......

They may not be fruit flies, they may be drain flies, which is different and are treated differently.

We have something called TERRO. It is Liquid Ant Baits. You cut one end off the bait and set it where you see the ants. It works! They are pre-filled and ready to use. There are 6 baits in each box.

A few minutes ago I showed Alfie the ants and he used one.

We have the same problem around this time of the year and found they work great!

I just laugh and tell the little critters, we are giving you a treat and they fall for it

I hate creatures and recently got stung by a couple of wasps on my upper lip! It was not pretty.....I bought some Benedryl and applied it. The swelling went down a bit over night and by the next day it was almost normal size.

I found some wasp spray and it has a good long spray so I can stand back and kill those suckers! I aimed for them and their nests.

We live near the edge of town so get some surprises! I looked out the bedroom door and told Alfie to hurry and look at something...….it was a baby alligator ! Next day there was another one. We have a pond the other side of our back property.

I thought, hmmm, if there are babies there is a mama not far away.

We have seen deer run on the edge of the property and feed them deer corn on the far backside of the patio.

We have had a couple of huge snakes on the window ledge going after baby birds in the nest by the kitchen window.

Saw a coyote one day. The excitement just never ends

So far, I've not had a problem with flies, of any kind. but we have crickets that find their way into the house this time of year. Their chirping is pleasant, OUTSIDE, but quite annoying inside. I have no problem killing them when I catch them in the open.

Only in the summer I have problems with fruit flies. If I leave fruit out in a bowl on the counter to finish ripen all of sudden the fruit flies are buzzing around. The minute the fruit goes in the fridge they are gone. The complex where I live has had trouble with moths. Sometimes when I go to have a shower something small flies out of the shower curtain. It could be a very small moth. They usually get flushed down the drain with hot water.
Speaking of coyotes a lady who lives in my complex goes out at 4:30 AM with her dog. The other day a coyote was cruising down our street. They come up from Stanley Park. My building is 2 blocks from the park. We had a surplus of coyotes a number of years ago and they ended up having to round them up and move them away from the area. They liked to spend time down at the beach looking for rats.

I don't remember being stung by a bee, but they sure do seem drawn to you.
Mosquitoes like me, and I don't like them for sure. One bite is not so bad, but if I get several, I get nauseous and faint feeling. That's happened a couple of times in my life, so now I avoid being outside when they are real active.

Aw, Bijou..... it's just that you're sweet as honey and that's what attracts them.

Interesting - it's my understanding the 'O' blood type (O-positive and O-negative) is the most common blood type. I am O- negative which is considered universal in that it can be transfused to a patient of any blood type (apparently). Don't know about bees & wasps being attracted specifically to 'O' blood types either but as long as they keep their distance I'm happy!

A friend told me years ago that while working in the bush tree planting, he was always getting stung by wasps and they would always be buzzing around him. They didn't bother the native fellow working near him.

When he complained, this fellow said the wasps were attracted to him because his sweat smelled like the fruit he was eating.... oranges, bananas, etc.

Interesting~~~

Hi again Bijou. I'm sorry for your distressing experience and the loss of your baby. Who would have thought incompatible blood types could jeopardise a pregnancy.

My apologies, I should have been more specific re 'O' blood type being the most common (in the U.S. at least), that 45% Americans have type 'O', with 38% O+ positive and 7% O- negative (according to source). You're right, 'O' negative is far less common. Also, I'm O+, not O -negative - the O's had me confused . After my post, I wondered if bees were attracted to specific blood types and came across a site which I think addressed some of your questions (also includes a section on bee myths and facts) - I've included the link if you're interested.
