The Challenges of Being a Physically Fit Senior

I remember walking downtown with a Neighbor who commented that her doctor advised her to walk or she wouldn't be able to. She had difficulties walking any distance. I felt very fortunate because I loved the West Virginia Hiking Trails. We had just celebrated her 55th Birthday and within a year, she died. She was a smoker who didn't exercise.

I have lost several members of my family because of obesity. My Father died at the age of 57. My Paternal Grandmother dies at the age of 59. My beloved Maternal Step Granddaddy died at the age of 53. Obesity and Old Age do not go hand in hand.

When I left West Virginia for Texas in 2006 - One of the first things the Texas Trucker said was "You weigh 30 Pounds more that I thought you did!" He also didn't like the fact that I was taller than him.

I didn't find the Great Love Connection in Texas but I did discover the Great Work Connection that somehow eluded me in West Virginia.

I went to work for Wal-Mart and lost the 30 pounds. It can be like going to the Gym and getting paid for it. I worked for Wal-mart in Forney, Texas, Farren,Nevada and Covington, Virginia before transferring to Sam's Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. I've been a baker, a meat department associate, a cashier and now I am a Produce Merchandiser.

It was amazing how just losing a few pounds can alleviate alot of health challenges.

So during the Holidays, the weight started sneaking back on. That's it, I thought to myself. My azzzzzzzzzz is going to the Gym. What a Great Move that has turned out to be.

My energy level has gone up and the lifting at work is much easier.

Personally, I am more interested in being Healthy than I am in becoming a politically correct size 2. My philosophy is that if I make mostly Healthy Choices, my body will be what it is suppose to be AND I would much rather be a well toned size 14 Hourglass than a Size 5 dumpling shaped sting bean.

Weight Training is good for preventing Osteoporosis and the Cardio Work-Outs keep the Ticker going good.

and if I don't find Love........... Oh Well!!!!!!

at least I am having a great time at the Gym.

im able to walk about 50 yards at a normal pace but i can manage greater distance by walking in short steps

i walk each day to the beach an average person takes 2 and a half minutes it takes me 15 but thats better than the 20 minutes when i came out of hospital

the message isnt getting out to people exercise doesnt have to be hard just regular , i got my little Poppy dog to make me get out and about apparently the average dog owner walks about 8 hours a week
