Thomas Jefferson & the Wisdom of Seperation of Church and State

There is much talk about the of violent Islamic Extremist. Historical - Christians Extremist have also been violent.

There has been the Inquisition, the Burning Times and the Salem Witch Trails and the English Reformation was a doozy. Religion was politically motivated, folks declared and executed as Heretics depending on the whims of Royalty.

People didn't know what to believe because it was always changing. The ones that survived eventually came to the New World and persecuted those didn't see things their way.

The Salem Witch Trails happen - and frequently the accused Witches simply possessed the properties that the Clergy wanted to acquire.

Quakers were banished in some communities. Hanged if they refused to leave which is why the State of Pennsylvania was founded.

Millions of innocent men, women and , since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity.
-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782

Hence

The Statute for Religious Freedom is one of only three accomplishments Jefferson instructed be put in his epitaph. It supports separation of church and state, and freedom of conscience. In 1786, the Virginia General Assembly enacted the statute into the state's law.

Personally I think Thomas Jefferson Rocks and I don't want any Government Official dictating what path my Spirituality should take.

your sense of history is somewhat twisted but your premise that any Government should not tell any person what religion to follow is true. Interesting that you find a slave owner who slept and fathered children of his concubines as someone who "ROCKS". Could it be that its the reason why you think highly of William "Jefferson" Clinton? The abuses you heap on Christians pale in comparison what avowed Atheist have done world wide. They have murdered, tortued, imprisoned more citizens than all of the world religions combined.

Its time to start reading the Bible, It will scare the Hell out of you...

religion is as devisive as a football team

before and during the game supporters cheer on their own brand of religion and the crowd grows to hate the opposition if they score or play dirty leading to fighting after the match

its a similar pattern that has re ignited violence in Northern Ireland over the past few summer weeks the Orange team slugs it out with the green team hurling petrol bombs and trying to kill police officers ~ take the Irish away from the playing field over the water to the mainland and they all become peacefull people again

government can only operate if it is free from the bigotry of religions

come on you bluuuues !!
