Black Friday Adventures at Wal-Mart & A Twelve Step Meeting

I supported the Capitalist Dream by working at Wal-mart on Thanksgiving. It was actually a HO HUM!!!! Day. I prefer it busier. The time goes by faster. I got off work and drove over the boarder to Virginia to celebrate the Holiday with some friends.

Black Friday was scheduled to start at 10 PM on Thanksgiving Eve.

Driving home, I drove past Wal-Mart where Black Friday was in full force. I was certainly glad to NOT be working at that time. The Parking Lot was packed. The Parking Lot for the Stores at the Mall Next to is was full. The Parking Lots for Applebee's and Arby's was full. People were parked across the street and even illegally on the streets.

Dang, I thought to myself. Where the heck am I going to park when I get to work in the morning. When I made it home, I crawled into bed only to wake up, get dressed and head to work.

Happily, I was able to park in my usual place. Yea Haw! I survived Cashiering on Black Friday! I came home exhaused and tempted to crawl back into bed. I needed to go to a 12 Step Meeting, It was suggested that I would feel better once I got there.

I've seen so many at the beginning of thier journey into recovery. I love watching them progress, grow and become respected 12 Step Guru's One of my favorites was speaking that night. At the end of the meeting, they were giving out chips for various milestones in recovery. One of the local lawyers was giving them out. Desire Chip, Thirty Days, Three Months, Six Months, Nine Months, Any Anniversaries, Nope and he starts to close the Box.

Excuse Me, I told him. We DO have an anniversary. Is there a 34 Year Chip in there? I forgot all about why I needed to be at that meeting.

Alcoholism is not a Sin and Sobriety is not a Virtue. Despite all my years, I have never acheived Guru Status but I've watched a number of others do just that. It's a lot easier to get 34 years than it is 34 days. Surviving Black Friday at Wal-Mart is real acheivement. Yea Haw!!!!!

I saw it on TV Star. You are so right, 34 days its so much harder than 34 years. Congratulations, I bet you felt better after that meeting.

I'll never be an AA guru either.

I believe guru status requires a strong belief in the AA religion.
