B*ne Broth Making Adventures

I have always been more of a production cook versus a gourmet Kitchen Goddess. When I was a working MUM, the crockpot was my best friend. I wish I had the Instant Pressure Cooker Pot when I was raising my boys.

Earlier this month, I was hospitalize because Xarelto (blood thinner) and Diverticulitis don't work well together. I went to the Emergency Room with a Hemoglobin Count of 4 which resulted in three days of ICU Hades. The first night was spent prepping for a Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EDG)/Colonoscopy while getting a blood transfusion and hooked to a EKG Monitor.

I prefer to ask a doctor what lifestyle change can I make versus what pill do I have to take to fix it. One of the ladies from my Quaker Meeting is drinking two cups of b*ne broth a day for digestive problems.

I decided to give it a try and purchased some at Wal-Mart. I have been advised that the more expensive brands are better. Hmmm................. I started getting results within two days with the less expensive brand. It is possible that somebody is trying to make more money off of it. I decided to start making it myself.

I started out making it in the crockpot which is a 32 Hour process. Stove top cooking is out of the question. My smoke alarm is VERY sensitive. Next I purchased an Instant Pressure Cooker from Am*zon, What a difference, I can make a batch in three hours. There are other things that can cook a whole lot faster. Eight minutes for Dinner last night.

Hasta La Vista Stove!!!!!

I told the doctors that absolutely no way am I going back to taking Xarelto. The medications for Arrhythmia are going next. I might consider the baby aspirin regiment I was following before the doctors started prescribing the rat poison. Bah Humbug!!!!

Joe was on Coumadin and I was glad of that when he had the bleeding, because it's actions can be reversed quickly, whereas the newer ones like you were on cannot. But after repeated episodes of bleeding, he is no longer on any blood thinners. He didn't have silent bleeding, he would pass huge amounts of it and within a couple days, he would need transfusions.
As for the Insta Pot, my daughter has one and loves it. I have been debating whether I would use it enough to get one for myself or not.
I can see where making the bone broth would be an excellent alternative too, because the amount of sodium would be more controlled. That is the one drawback for me with the store bought. Of course, there is more work involved than just twisting off the cap and I don't know if I would actually do it. I am getting pretty lazy when it comes to cooking these days.
I've done some reading on the bone broth and some websites say a cup a day is recommended, and some say up to 4 cups a day. I guess, it is whatever gets results, but for those who drink a lot of it, and use the more expensive kind, the cost is prohibitive, IMO.

It only took one trip to the ER and a stay in ICU to convince me that Blood Thinners and I are parting company. I have always had a sensitive digestive system. I was on a halter monitor to evaluate for an Atrial Ablation procedure which will fix the arrhythmia.
The instant pot is ideal for the lazy cook. I do everything in it now. My Quaker friend is drinking bone broth twice a day so I am following her lead and it seems to be working.

Nevertheless, I was getting results from the least expensive Wal-Mart brand so if it works. c'est la vie

I don't really use a recipe. I toss in whatever veggies I have on hand along with the herbs. For this particular batch, I used Carrots, Onions, Parsnip, Garlic, Ginger and Bay Leaves. They all go on top of the bones which are soaked in cold water with a teaspoon of vinegar for about an hour. This seeps out the nutrients from the homes. After everything is in the the Instant Pot. I set the manual timer for 90 Minutes. Voila!!!! Done. It can be stored in Mason Jars or Freezer bags. Whatever is going to be consumed within a few days can be stored in the refrigerator and anything else can be frozen.

The beauty is that after the veggies are strained from the broth, they can be dinner while the broth is stored.

Bone Broth can be used for anything that you would use regular broth. Absolutely
