Meeting Houses and God Jar Adventures

I am sure that "Secular Minds" will come up with Scientific Reasoning. Que Sera Sera!!!!

Sunday, I was keeping company with the Religious Society of Friends and we started talking about buying or building a meeting house. Quakers don't call them Churches, they call them Meeting Houses. It's not called Meditation, it's called Silent Worship. We have been meeting in homes and the library for several years. Slowly but surely, we are growing. A permanent home would awesome.

We were brainstorming to find many different possibilities and scenarios. I told the group that I would write everything down, place it in my "God Jar" and pop a candle on top of it.

I first heard the story about a God Box in a 12 Step Meeting. I decided to give it a try but created a God Jar instead. The idea is to write down requests to God and it is always interesting to check it a few years later.

I shared about when I relocated to Ventura with my two boys. We were in a shelter and I had a life that needed rebuilding. I wrote down that I wanted to work at a County Hospital because I could not stand the values some of the staff at a previously hospital that I worked for. I wrote that I wanted it to be near an Episcopal Church and hopefully living there.

I took classes to update my skills and also took a journalism class. I suddenly realize that I wanted to work for the Star Free Press so I placed that in my God Jar.
I contacted a private employment and also the state employment agencies.

A few weeks later, I got a call from the private employment agency. They had a job for me at the Star Free Press. The lady thought I was nuts because I was laughing so hard on the phone. That job only lasted one day. There was no way that I could pick up my boys from Afterschool care and maintain that job at the same time. The following week, I got a call from the State Employment Agency. The job was at the County Hospital across from the Episcopal Church.

It was like my Higher Power telling me, I'll show you where you want to be and place you where you need to be. I worked for the hospital for seven months and transferred to Social Services as a Caseload Worker which stabilize my family.

Today, I pulled out what I placed in the God Jar in September of 2016, The results are interesting.

Prosperity for my boys. They are all doing well.

Interesting, Star. My God jar was actually a book. For several years, I would write down things I was praying for, and as those prayers were answered, I would make note of the date and the circumstances surrounded the answer. Some were done quickly, others not so much..... and some were answered in strange and very God type ways.
I slowly got away from the habit of doing that and don't even know what eventually happened to that book.

Sounds like old Persian Tales of the Genie in the bottle, except it's in a jam jar.......The God of the Jam Jar grants wishes ........Every ancient culture has these tales of magic and wishes granted......the form depending on the culture.......Maybe Humans are genetically predisposed to magical thinking.....

Somehow I don't think my Higher Power lives in a Jam Jar, Nevertheless, when something works and there is no logical reason why...………… Coincidences are what convinced me that there is something higher than human self will run riot - although it does seem to create a messed up world.

Ironically, I didn't book the plane to St. Augustine in 2016 but I did end up on the bus to St. Augustine in 2018. I am reasonably certain that the staff at the employment agencies didn't read the contents of the "God Jar" so who told them I wanted to work at the Star Free Press and the County Hospital?

It'll be interesting to see how your meeting house comes to be.
