Quilts, Quakers and Palestine

This weekend I keeping company with the Quakers at our SAYMA (Southern Appalachian Yearly Meeting Association) I had an opportunity to buy some Spices from a Palestinian Women's Fair Trade Outfit. Quakers have a tendency to support worthy causes.

The first time I attended a SAYMA Gathering, there was a table for creating Quilts Pieces for a project Honoring Palestinian Civilians killed in Dr*ne Attacks' There was a list of names and a hand full of pieces. I sat at the table and started making . I noticed that sewing was not required. There was fabric glue which expedited the process. So I made another and another . I kept making quilt pieces while everybody else was at the meeting. It's a hours meeting by the time they were d, I had made quilt pieces for all the names on the list.

The lady who set up the table walked up and her response was 'WOW!" I was happy for her success and wanted to remain anonymous. Professor B who is our meeting clerk (leader) knew what I had d but also understood, I didn't want it to be know that I made all the pieces.

So at our finally business meeting the next morning, She announced how please she was that all pieces were made and the list was completed. Would every grab the quilt that they made and hold it up for a picture.

That was a real dilemma. I didn't want that much attention in front of a crowd. It was my first yearly meeting and I was trying simply blend in. A few folks came forward. She finally requested that somebody, anybody grab a quilt piece for the picture.

We had a wonderful time at SAYMA, Southern Appalachian Yearly Meeting. We took the Dr Quilt Project with us and lots of Friends made blocks for future quilts. Each block is made in memory of an innocent civilian who is killed by a dr*ne strike. We gave a workshop on Conientious Objection, urging our youth to be prepared with documentation in case the draft is reinstated.

After that Yearly Meeting, I became an official Quaker and now I will be working on a project to promote Fair Trade among third world nations and places like Palestine. It's funny how the Creator gave me a glimpse of what was to come. It was all part of the plan.
