Much Ado About The Wall

On October 26, 2006, U.S. President George W. Bush signed the Secure Fence Act of 2006 (Pub.L. 109–367) into law stating, "This bill will help protect the American people. This bill will make our borders more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform."[1]
The bill was introduced on September 13, 2006, by Congressman Peter T. King, Republican of New York. In the House of Representatives, the Fence Act passed 283–138 on September 14, 2006.[2] On September 29, 2006, the Fence Act passed in the Senate 80–19. Senators OBAMA, Schumer, and Clinton all voted to pass the bill.

So What is the big deal about Trump's proposal to build a wall.

First, what is the President's actual proposal? I It's NOT a 2,000 mile wall. In reality, it is a holistic, reasonable plan drafted by security experts:
-234 miles of physical barrier
-$800M for humanitarian and medical assistance
-More Law Enforcement officers
-Counter-drug technology at points of entry
-More Immigration Judges
-Better and more spacious detention facilities

I remember as a crossing the bridge into Tijuana, Mexico. There were squatters living at the bottom of the bridge in dilapidated shacks with raw sewage flowing all around them. Later, I saw on the news where Mexico kicked out the squatters (hopefully rehoming them) and cleaned up the place. No human being should ever have to live like that. I would not want that kind of eyesore in my community.

This is one of the reasons that Mexicans are protesting the arrival of Central American Migrants and have issues with their town being used as a waiting room for migrants trying to get into the United States. Hence the need for better and more spacious detention centers. The democrats were screeching about the separation of the and the adults. Housing them together in an inadequate detention center is not the best scenerio. More Immigration Judges means that they can be processed a lot quicker instead of waiting on the other side of the border or sitting in a detention center for a year or more. Humanitarian and Medical assistance is self-explanatory.

It is ironic that Trump is taking steps to FIX the problems that the Democrats are carping about and they are trying to block him.

Very ironic. I just want to comment on the separation of kids from their parents.
It is done all the time in our society, and nobody squawks. Just try breaking the law and going to jail. Uhhhh, what happens to your children? They are either placed with relatives or into state care.
How about if you don't take care of them properly? They are removed from the home and placed with strangers or into a orphanage type home.
Ok, so somebody crosses the border, ILLEGALLY, and gets caught, and the kids get separated from them...... so what?
And just how many illegal immigrants do people think our country can hold and take care of?
To Congress I would say.........Build the damn wall, whatever you want to call it..... fix the DACA and immigration, and get busy with other things you are supposed to be doing.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I thought it had been downgraded to an artistic steel fence.

Interesting article in The Economist of Nov 24 on the effectiveness of the wall. The Economist is hardly a leftist journal.
The first 550 miles built under Bush had little effect according to an analysis by economists at Dartmouth and Stanford Universities.
Using data on the ID cards issued by the Mexican government to citizens living in the US they estimate the wall reduced the number of Mexicans living in the US by 0.6%.
A wall that cost $2.3 billion to build, and $450 million in maintenace costs.
Doesn't sound like a good use of public bucks to me.
But I suppose the wall isn't about effectiveness, it's about feeling good.

I couldn't agree more. It is really easy. Trump wants a border wall … therefore I don't want a border wall. When Trump looks like a fool, l like it.
