ChurchPeople,FairyMirrors&GettingReadyForTheGreatPumpkin

You are a of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him

When I first became a 12 Stepper, I was told to seek "God as you understand him." I've explored several different religions and attended different churches. Early in my sobriety, I decided I wanted a religion and read in a college textbook that Episcopalians were the most educated. I've always had a tendency to read the stars and cards. It is a way of tapping into God-given Intuition.

When my marriage went south and I was left with two sons, I needed a village and found that village around the corner at the Avenue Church in Ventura, California. I still have problems believing that everyone in the world needs Jesus as a "stay out of hell" card. Still, that village kept my boys from jumping into the hell that some of the folks in the blighted neighborhood got stuck in.

I met Grumpy who eventually became my second husband. My boys and I relocated to Ojai. I started attending the local Unitarian/Universalist Fellowship. I started teaching Sunday School and took the on field trips to Meditation Mountain and the Nordolff Graveyard. I started exploring Pagan religions and going to Native American Sweat lodges

We relocated to West Virginia. A Church on every corner. The local Quaker group made my activist heart go pitter patter so that is where I am now..

So we have HERSELF ranting "The church is full of hypocrites, sitting inside the 4 walls of a building and reciting a creed doesn't make you right-living ......what it does is pump you full of self-righteousness, Yada Yada Snore."

This has not been my experience with churches. Where would we be without churches during natural disasters? The Mennonites rebuilt White Sulpher Springs while the Pentecostals cleared the debris. How many churches operated food pantries and other services for low-income folks. Have you ever heard about Operation Blessings which helps with emergency utility bills? I volunteered with a group of churches in Ojai Valley which provided Winter Shelter for the homeless.

What the Quakers do incredible. I have never been a benchwarmer no matter what Church I have attended. That would never be an option as a Quake

I certainly didn't find self righteousness in my beliefs, quite the opposite. In fact, Christianity teaches just the opposite, that self righteousness is as filthy rags. I am nothing without Christ and the power of God.
BTW, I think I might get a jade plant and set it on the steps...... A BIG jade plant! LOL

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I have done OK without mental crutches or superstition. My children are high achievers through self reliance and personal responsibility exactly the way I taught them. LOL
To each his or her own.
Party On!

I don't know why Hypocrite and Self Righteous, are the go-to names that nonbelievers call folks of faith. Whatever! I don't understand the atheist mindset and never will.

My Jade Plant started as a cutting from my Quaker girlfriend's plant and it keeps on growing. Jade Plants are really easy to grow and kill proof which is the kind of plants that I work best with.
