The Policially Incorrect Wandering Dude, Pumpkin Flowers, and To"mah"toes!

We will no longer allow the common “Wandering Jew” Tradescantia zebrina. This plant is also known as inch plant, spiderwort, and even wandering dude

When I read the announcement in my Plant , my first thought was, "I've got get of these plants." I looked and couldn't find that Tradescantia Zebrina at Wal-Mart or Lowes. So along comes a "God Shot" this morning. I was on my patio checking my Pumpkin and Tomato Plants. I started talking to of my upstairs neighbors and Lo and Behold' there was a potted Tradescantia Zebrina on my neighbor's patio him. "Dang! I am so tempted take a cutting off that plant." My upstairs neighbor advised me, "Go on ahead, he won't care," I need ask him permission first.

We continued conservation and I told him how my Plant doesn't allow us the Tradescantia Zebrina a wandering jew. It could be considered racist or anti-Semitic. His response was, "What a bunch of bull." We got on the topic of the ridiculousness of Political Correctness.

The more we talked, the more I wanted a cutting off that plant. My upstairs neighbor keeps urging me just take a cutting, our downstairs neighbor won't mind. I finally concluded that the plant needed trimming anyway.

Now, I have a new household member. I will him a Wandering Dude just keep my plant happy but I am naming him J.W. after my Jewish Grandfather, Jack Winterstein

My grandfather Jack Winterstein really was a Wandering Dude. This is the only picture that I have of him and it's not quite politically correct but he now has Tradescantia zebrina growing in his honor

My grandmother had a huge Wandering Jew. She grew many kinds of plants and I don't think it was just a green thumb, I think all her fingers were green!
When I think about the Jews and businesses in our area, I don't think the plant's name is inappropriate at all. Most of the large businesses in our area that were owned by Jewish people started out as almost nothing and prospered and flourished. That is what a little cutting from that plant will do.
To me, a slur or racist comment is one that is meant to be. Take the N word, for instance. If someone calls a black person by that word, it is usually meant to be derogatory..... but black people call each other that all the time. It's not the word, it's the intent.
Now, about your other pictures..... Looks like you will have tom-A-toes ready to eat soon. Will you pick the blossoms off the pumpkin vine to make one big one? Do you eat the ones you might pick off?
