FullMoonOverBaltimore&CardinalGibbon'sMortalRemains

My goal has been go someplace that I've never been at least once a year. One year, I was in Washington D.C. for DAR Continental Congress. I met a cousin who was a 50 year member. Ironically we have quite a few mutual qualifying patriots from Maryland. I would love to visit St. Mary County, Maryland and visit the land of my ancestors but that hasn't happened YET!!!

I was in Washington D.C. for the umpteenth time and knew that was a huge statue of Cardinal Gibbons. This is my late husband's famous ancestor. I took an Uber to find the Statue, took a photo of him and climbed on the bus to get back. The bus was heading toward Maryland and stopped in Silver Springs, Maryland That was not my intention but at least I had been someplace, I've never been before however briefly.

The following year, I decide to go to Baltimore after the DAR convention. I booked the hostel and started looking for the Basilica where Cardinal Gibbons spent his days. Lo and Behold, it was right across the street from the hostel.

I made it to Baltimore via Amtrak. There was a beautiful full moon over Baltimore that night. I attended services at the Basilica and started the search for Cardinal Gibbons' mortal remains. I found the tombstone in a hall. If I wanted to get close and personal, I could have crawled through a tunnel in the basement.

I opted get out of the basement into the church to light candles for Grumpy Gibbons and his Catholic mother. Both of them raised quite a bit of Hades when they were on this side so I figured a few candles might keep them out of purgotory.

Whenever you are about to find fault with someone, ask yourself the following question: What fault of mine most nearly resembles the one I am about to criticize?”

Interesting travels you take. Just shows that one doesn't have to take an expensive vacation to enjoy various sights.
And this blog just reminded me that we need to take the winter flowers to my husband's grave. With all that has been going on, I had forgotten to get that done.

I am used to travelling on a shoestring. My one regret is that Grumpy isn't here to share the experiences, He loved trains and would have been thrilled to see the Basilica where his famous cousin lived and walked. I don't think he would have been to happy in the hostel and sleeping in a mixed dorm. The bunk beds are not too comfortable and most require stair climbing. I actually prefer it now, especially since I travel solo. I meet all kinds of interesting people from all over the world.

Interesting blog, starwoman! I like to walk on grounds that reflect people's life in the past. The bright moon you saw was the same they saw......
