Inadvertly Decluttering and Minimalization

I have been working on decluttering my home by getting rid of stuff and not allowing new stuff in. I in Atlanta for two weeks when I got a call from my neighbor who babysitting my plants. I also her for housecleaning.

She called me to let me know that the refrigerator light out. I told her that I would deal with it when I got back and order one from Amazon.

When I got home yesterday. Yikes, the refrigerator unplugged. The light fine. I had to clear out everything. My neighbor inadvertly unplugged it. I told her not to worry, I needed to clear it and get rid of the old stuff anyway.

Luckily the Blueberry/Pomegranate that arrived from Amazon well insulated and winter on the horizon helped.

I am not buying new groceries until I utilize the ones that I have. Pumpkin Curry Soup on the horizon.

Hmm.....wouldn't want someone having the run of my house that didn't think of checking if the fridge was plugged in........

All I asked her to do is bring my plants inside because of a pending frost. She decided to do more and unplugged the fridge. There was no use in getting uptight over it. I figure, I needed to clear it anyway. I have dietary restrictions and some of that food needed to be gone. Now it's sparkling clean and I need to restock it with different foods anyway. My neighbor is also a good friend who relocated from Nebraska, had her own housekeeping business so we can help each other. I am not going to rake a friend over the coals for an accident which worked out well regardless.

She "inadvertently" unplugged the fridge, then opened the fridge for some reason and saw that the light was out and it never occurred to her that she may have accidently unplugged it? Why was she opening the fridge if all she was asked to do was move your plants into the house? Did she move plants into the house for warmth and then put them in the fridge?........

Well, it happened and now you have a clean refrigerator. When we traveled, we always cleaned out the fridge before we left.... what could be frozen went into the freezer, and other things were eaten, given away or tossed.
Something that Duck told me,,,,, but I never did, and he admitted that he didn't either,,,,,, was to freeze a container of ice and place a quarter on top of the ice.
If the power went off and the ice melted, the quarter would no longer be on the top and depending on how far into the container it was, the food in the freezer may still be good or not. He had read that somewhere, and it made perfect sense, but like I said, we never actually did it.
I know you had a great trip, but I bet you are glad to be home.

I WOULD NOT ALLOW ANYONE IN MY APARTMENT WHEN I AM AWAY. I ALWAYS TURN OFF THE WATER HEATER AND HEAT IF I AM GONE MORE THAN 24 HOURS BUT THE FRIDGE STAYS ON BECAUSE I ALWAYS KEEP A FROZEN DISH IN THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT TO HAVE SOMETHING READY TO EAT WHEN I GET HOME. THAT WAY I KNOW THAT IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG, THERE IS NO ONE TO BLAME BUT MYSELF.

No harm done. It serves no purpose to belittle a good friend. I always have someone here if I will be gone overnight. I have wonderful neighbors here ( three + miles apart ) and we know we can depend on one another .

Exactly, She is not just a neighbor. She's a long time friend.

Ahhh..... Poor neighbour was just cleaning as a good deed and inadvertently the fridge got unplugged. She probably caught the cord with the mop or broom~~

In the big scheme of things, this was not a huge 5 alarm fire event~~

I don't think anyone ever checks my fridge when I am away. I only ask them to collect the mail and water the plants. If an emergency comes up they can check in with me on my cell phone.
