Joyous Body, The Wild Flesh and Body Shaming

A blog that has now been deleted pointed out the fact that Star is "no spring chicken" and very fat. Interesting - I am on a site called "SENIOR Friend Finders." Dah!!!

I am grateful that I have survived long enough to reach my late SlXTIES pushing LXX. I have many family members who were not so fortunate. While compulsive and destructive eating disorders that distort body size and body image are real and tragic, they are NOT the norm for most folks.

Most folks are big, small, short, tall, wide or narrow are that way simply because of genetics. It is ridiculous to a shame a person because their body is too much of this or not enough of that.

I have often joked about my politically incorrect curves. I have never been a skinny Minnie nor do I ever plan to become one. Indeed, I am no Spring Chicken and my metabolism has slowed down. I am also retired thus not as active as I used to be. I used to sling around FlFTY boxes of products for stocking in grocery shelves and run three miles a day. I would participate in running events although I was never built for speed.

Indeed, those politically incorrect curves have expanded to the point where it could affect my health. Last year I had emergency surgery. It was a Nissen Fundoplication for Hiatal Hernia Repair but actually works like a Gastric Sleeve Surgery which results in the reduction of the stomach.

Yea Haw!!!! I CAN"T eat excessive amounts of food. Still, it would be counterproductive to fill that reduced stomach with pizza even with pineapple.
I ALWAYS look for X!! Step Solutions along with the Goodbye Junk Food Journey followed by No Sugar/White Flour or other wheat products.

It's not about body shape or size, it's about health. Yes! I've lost several close family members because of complications from compulsive, destructive, eating disorders. They deserve compassion not shaming.

I get soooo tired of articles/comments shaming body size. Yes, I know that the medical community has suggested weights in order to maintain a healthy life.

Why women seem inordinately concerned about weight, and some of the past & current terribly uncomfortable clothing and footwear, makeup, etc. etc. I don't understand.

Although we're major consumers, we still can't seem to readily buy pants by waist & inseam measurement.

We need to say no more and keep our wallets closed!!

MY MOTHER WAS A PERVERSE NARCISSIST AND NEARLY DROVE ME, MY FATHER AND BROTHER NUTS WITH HER IDEA THAT THINNESS WAS GODLINESS. I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIN AND THE THREE OF US ALL DEVELOPED EATING DISORDERS. I ONLY GOT RID OF MINE WHEN I MOVED TO THE SOUTH OF FRANCE IN 1971 AND AM CONSIDERED NORMAL FOR MY GREAT AGE. THERE IS SUCH AN ANTI-FAT-PERSON MOVEMENT THAT IT IS HARD NOT TO CRITICIZE THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO STAY MORE-6OR-LESS WITHIN THE NORMS. IN ANYONE SHOULD SYMPATHIZE WITH THOSE FOLKS, IT IS ME.

It is my body and I am happy with it. Some are, some aren't and most don't care. What is more important that what my body looks like is how I treat people and although I make mistakes in that area also I do try to learn from those mistakes and become a better person.

Seems like her life must be very unfulfilling if the physical appearance of someone they have never met is the most interesting subject they can come up with.........

I had an interesting conversation in one of my zOOm groups. We were talking about abstaining from sugar and white flour. A large percentage of the women in the group have long term sobriety. We were talking about how the road gets narrower as we get longer time in sobriety. There were things that we could tolerate in early recovery that we cannot now. This includes toxic people, toxic jobs, toxic behavior, and even toxic foods. I am sure that even nonalcoholics can relate to that.

Addiction takes many forms.....I spent years in therapy trying to heal from childhood trauma....My coping mechanisms were never as obvious as substance abuse.....Unraveling my psychic scars has been a lifelong puzzle...easing generalized anxiety is still my greatest challenge.

I couldn't agree more, well said.

Everyone should be happy in their own skin, and if not, do something to change, for themselves. Everyone else should just leave others alone.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I did more than give a certain blogger a giant middle finger. I blocked her stupid azzzzzz. Although in all fairness, I am sure that she was not too happy when I suggested that she was a returning troll who got sent to SFF jail and came back with a new profile. She has been doing "Hate Star" blogs for a long time for her own issues that have nothing to do with me.

Bravo!!! I am at a stage in my life where I don't worry about silver hair, lines in my face, or a few excess pounds. I am making some changes for health reasons. I would like to spend the reminder of the golden years in reasonable comfort.

I think shaming becomes socially unacceptable when a significant part of the population acquires some habit, addiction, or appearance.

In the 40's and 50's smokers were not shamed because so many people did it. Now it's OK because smokers have become a much smaller minority.

Body shaming was not frowned upon in the 50's and 60's because there were far fewer obese people.

I have noticed the same thing with drug addicts. They get a lot more sympathy than previously.
