The Goodby Junk Food Road Show - TB Thursday

The Best Advise I ever got came from my 12 Step Sponsor's Husband. "If you get emotionally involved and it kicks your A$$........... Don't Drink!"

So two marriages and several heartbreaks later, I put the plug in the jug and never looked back. Life is so much easier being a teetotaler.

However..............Ben & Jerry Ice Cream is another story. There have been times when I have been feeling blue and a carton of Ice Cream was the fix. It doesn't have the consequences of too much vodka but there are consequences none the less.

The challenge is that the longer I am a teetotaler, the narrower the road gets. I am far more sensitive to toxins. Toxic jobs, toxic people, toxic places and even toxic foods and TROLLS.

My Higher Power has a wicked sense of humor. Last year I had emergency surgery. I am REALLY sensitive to certain foods which has physical consequences. The concept of comfort food is no more. Still - I REALLY REALLY like Ice Cream. I don't bring it into the house. Macadamia Cookies are also yummy.

I don't know what could cause more trouble - Scantily clad men or platters of chocolate.

S0............. I was in Atlanta for two weeks in November. My girlfriend accidently unplugged my refrigerator. I came home and had to clean the refrigerator and throw everything out.. This was a blessing in disguise. Toxic food out - Healthy food in and a sparkling refrigerator to boot.

My girlfriend also turned me on to a show called my 600 lb life. Contrary to what a certain jailbird troll likes to broadcast about me - I have never been that morbidly obese. Sometimes I listen to some of the folks in the show run their mouths and they sound like addicts that I've heard in XII Step Meetings. I feel like telling them to STFU!!!! I applaud anyone who makes it but there are so many train wrecks on that show.

Still, I listen to the advice that Dr. Now and the dieticians give them. I follow that advice. I am on a few discussion groups for the show on FB. I was able to connect to a XII Step Website that deals with that issue with virtual zOOm meetings. So not only is it the Goodby Junk Food Road Show - It's Goodby white flour and sugar. Life on life's terms.

Teff is used to make injera bread. It's not a bad alternative to white flour and wheat products. Low Carbs with Protein

I prefer bacon to kale but I am not sure that using it as an alternative to kale is a good plan.

Sushi is good in moderation.

Paydays at least the Candy Bars can be trouble especially for someone allergic to peanuts

Quakers have the best potlucks. This is one where we opted to go Ethiopian. Making Injera bread is quite the challenge which is why I opt to make teff waffles instead.

I do have a lot of fun with Bernie. My son works on the road, is frequently out of state, so he uses my address for his mailing address. Whenever there is important mail that involves $$$$$ I text him a picture of a payday candy bar and give it to him when he finally picks up his mail.

When I look at the photos, I can tell that my food choices are mostly healthy but I try to keep the junk food out of the house. Now that it's snow storming, I can't go out to get any, I figure if I REALLY want an ice cream cone, I have to get out, take the train to Central Park and visit Koffla's Ice Cream Kiosk.

I had my last drink of booze in 1981.
Don't miss it at all.
Certainly don't miss the hangovers.

Everyone needs to do what works for themselves, but healthier eating never hurts anyone. Our concentration is on sodium content and I have learned how to make that work for us.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
