PhotoFriday MLKmarchValentine5K&PrayerTies

Finally, Life after hip replacement surgery. Running Events have always been an important part of my being. This part of my life has been absent during the years of dealing with my problematic hip. After a few years of half measures treatments, I finally changed doctors and found one will to simply replace the problematic hip. It took a year and a requirement that I lose a whole bunch of weight but finally in November of last year, the procedure was done.

I took painkillers the first two weeks, I took Tylenol and Advil the following month and finally I don't need anything at all.

The Ironic thing is that I have been talking to several of my classmates and it seems like quite a few of them have or plan to get knee and hip replacement. I also have a Barrister friend who may or may not turn out to be a love connection who is also getting hip replacement surgery in February. I have volunteered to care for him during his recovery.

I have traditionally carried Prayer Ties when I've done running and other sporting events. I do this as a tangible way to carry special prayers for folks that need them. Native Americans filled them with tobacco but I usually fill them up with other types of herbs. Rosemary, basil, rose petals, lavender, ad infintum......

I bicycled the Greenbrier River Trail (80 Miles) with the American Lung Association. I did use Tobacco for that one to honor the memory of a woman that I cared for when she was in hospice. She died from lung disease. She passed on Lammas and her ceremony was on Friday the 13th. The woman and I were kindred souls. I make prayer ties from the tobacco from her cigarettes.

So now that I have a new hip I am trying to get my life back. I started with the local Martin Luther King March. That was about two miles.

Next on the agenda is the Valentine's Day 5K. I want a love life. I am tired of alone. It will be a Galloway Style Run which is a walk/run combination. I suspect mostly walking. This is a virtual run where I choose the route and report the timing to a website on-line. It will start at the town library to the fish hatchery where there is an awesome hiking trail behind. and back to the library. One of my prayer ties will be asking the Cosmos to bring love into my life. The other prayer ties will be for my classmates who have their own mobility challenges and surgeries.

I will also be carrying prayer ties for my favorite barrister who may or may not be a love connection.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE OVERDOING THINGS. IT MIGHT BE BEST TO STICK WITH WALKING DURING THOSE EVENTS IF ONLY TO MAKE SURE THAT NEW HIP STAYS IN PLACE. AND ENJOY THE SIGHTS.

I can probably get away with pushing it a bit harder than most. Nevertheless, I plan to use to Galloway method in running events. This is a walk /run combination which is not as hard on the joints. I suspect the Valentine's Day 5K will be mostly walking. I am hoping to do much better with the Chocolate 10K in April. I have never been a fast runner. I am not built for speed nor will I ever be built for speed. My son and I would do events together and he would laugh because I would stop to take photos.
