Riding the waves

Bible in one year:
Judges 19–21

Luke 7:31–50
Who is like you, Lord Almighty God? You, Lord, are powerful and your faithfulness surrounds you.

Psalm 89:8

Today's Scriptures & Insight:

Psalm 89:5–
As my husband strolled across the rocky beach taking pictures of the Hawaiian skyline, I sat a big rock worried about another medical setback. Although my problems would be waiting for me when I got home, I needed peace at the time. I looked at the incoming waves crashing into the black, uneven rocks. A dark shadow the curve of the wave caught my eye. Using the zoom option on my camera, I identified the shape as a sea turtle riding the waves peacefully. Its fins extend wide and still. Turning my face into the salty breeze, I smiled.

The "heavens praise the wonders [of God] " (Psalm 89:5). Our incomparable God rules "over the rising sea; when their waves rise, [God] fixes them" (v. 9). He "founded the world and that is in it" (vers. 11). He did everything, possesses everything, handles everything, and purposes everything for His glory and our enjoyment.

Standing the foundation of our faith—the love of our immutable Father—we can "walk in the light of [His] presence" (vers. ). God remains powerful in power and merciful in His dealings with us. We can rejoice in His name day (v. ). No matter what obstacles we face or how many setbacks we have endure, God sustains us as the waves rise and fall.

Reflect & Pray
As you face rough waves in life, how can reflection on God's wonders fill you with peace, courage, and trust in His continued presence and sufficient care? What situations do you need free God as you ride the waves of life?

Father, thank you for empowering ride the waves of life with courageous faith, anchored in Your proven faithfulness.

Sometimes, I just need a place of peace, away from everything, to clear my mind, quiet my emotions, and regain perspective of God is in control, no matter how the situation appears.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
