A Writer's Muse Outside a toilet stop somewhere in Czechoslovakia For me to be a writer They say I need a muse. "It will make you write better." So how can I refuse? "A muse is like an engine That drives the words from you – As if it is pump-driven." I don’t know if that’s true. They say to write good poetry I must know all the rhymes; Use meters, imagery And metaphors at times. I wonder what about those Perplexing and peculiar two Things known as free verse and prose? Are they not poetry too? I now know writing better Is well within my reach; I must tie that muse with a tether And nab those figures of speech.
