Malaysian Fruit Trees

Pic 1:
The durian tree can grow up to 50 metres in height and a mature tree can bear up to a few hundred fruits. The fruits are about 1 foot long and six inches wide and can weigh up to 3 kilos. In Malaysia, the fruits are collected when the ripe fruit falls to the ground.
Pic 2 and 3:
The rambutan tree can grow up to 20 metres in height and bear thousands of fruits in clusters. The rambutans are plucked when almost ripe because the ripe fruit is watery and pulpy.

My Goodness, I would not take a nap under that Durain tree. Isn't that the fruit that smells so badly, yet tastes very good?

I used to love those Rambutans. Lee. Sure would like to have a couple right now!

Hi Rose,

Rambutan belongs to the lychee family and taste like it too. Oops, you most probably have not heard of lychee either.
Well, durian is durian. The odour is very strong for Malaysian durians; you either love it or hate it.

Yes beepbeep,

Durian is the King of fruits! It taste heavenly and smells strongly. We stay away from the durian tree when it is windy but so far, I have only read of one fatality. The durian fell right on top of the poor guy's head.

Hi Hawk,

Then you should come over now. It is durian and rambutan season over here.

I love both Durians and Rambutans.... so expensive here so they have to be a special treat. Thanks Lee!

Hi sw,

Thank you. I am sure they are available in your area but, maybe after being packaged. I saw the fruits in Hawaii.

Hi Poet,

The durian pulp must also be dry. The most sought after now is the Musang King durian.

Hi 1750,

So, you have acquired the taste. It is pretty expensive elsewhere and not fresh too. The freshly harvested fruits taste much better.

Hi JAN,

There are pineapples and mangoes grown in Queensland so I won't be surprised if rambutans can be found too. I have read of durians being grown in Queensland some time back but I do not know what has happened since then.

Thanks for sharing these, Lee. I never heard of Durian tree, but I've seen the fruit of the second one, is known here like "Lichas" (Lychees). Its juice is tasty. Nice pics, love the blue sky.

Hi GLUMO,

Thank you. It looks like the rambutan has spread further than the durian; maybe it's because of the odour.

Hi glory,

We also have the white guava. This is the first time that I have heard of Pineapple guava. I hope that it and your mango bear fruits soon.
