Friday's Bouquet

I was walking to the bank in town last week when I spotted this banana flower inside the compound of what appears to be an Indian temple. This is very different from the other banana trees; the tree is shorter, the colour of the flower is pink instead of magenta but most important of all, the flower and fruits are pointed up instead of hanging down. I wanted to "rescue" the plant but the owner has it fenced up so all that I could steal is a shot.

Thanks for yet another variation. I have banana tress (or I should say plants) at my house but they have much smaller yellow / white flowers and they hang upside down from the one you posted. I remember larger yellow and orange ones when I lived in Miami but never saw a red one either.

Hi traveler,

The fruits are beneath the flower - about 7 of them. on the bottom leaf, you can see part of a leaf.

Hi Sl,

Thank you. The Malays here also eats them and, to my surprise, I even saw the banana flower on sale in one of the Morning Markets in Australia! However, I have never tried it before.

He sure is, mamannie.
Otherwise, that plant could be someone else's garden by now.

Sshh Poet,

Do you mean it has something to do with the Big Guy up there? Hmm, I think I am going back there with some Joss sticks to ask for Toto numbers.

Hi karin,

Yes, it is one of the cousins to the usual banana tree, methinks. You have a great weekend too.
