Photo Monday Bukit Merah is a small town near Taiping famous for the lake at its foot. Bukit Merah in English means Red Hill and the place is so-named because of the red clay of the hill. Long ago, the lake was famous for the Golden Arowana fish but due to overfishing and pollution (the once clear green water of the lake is now a dirty brown), the fish is rarely found now. Small fishing villages still dot its banks. The railroad to Penang traverses the lake and rail travelers can enjoy the panoramic view of the lake, especially at sunset. From top: 1. A view of the lake. 2. The railroad that traverses the lake. 3. A quiet enclave at the lake. Lee Live today as if it is your last For tomorrow will soon be in the past |

You posted great photographs Lee. These are the things I liked in the rural place the beauty of nature. So sad that all of these beauty of nature are suddenly disappearing. Thank you for posting and participating. "The only way to have a friend is to be one."

Hmm MsEd, You set me thinking back. It looks like I have never taken the train to Penang. It's only 80 km away and I always drive there. Lee Live today as if it is your last For tomorrow will soon be in the past

Brings back many memories Lee, though it looks a different place to the one I last saw many, many years ago. I always liked this part of the country. Thanks for the pictures. Alfie...

Clay in the soil. The first time I saw anything like this it was in a part of Oklahoma. All of the streams and lakes were permanently red brown. Spiritwoman ^i^

Thank you all for the comments. There seems to be a Red Hill everywhere and yes, I have visited Red Hill in Singapore, Poet. I can't see the red clay there too nor the hill. Anyway, the pictures are of the lake at the foot of the hill. I, too, despair at the destruction of our earth, Grouch. Right now, the hill which I climbed as a child is being destroyed to be replaced by houses. So sad, this progress. Lee Live today as if it is your last For tomorrow will soon be in the past
