Note: These rain trees (some of you know them as mimosa) are located at a section of the road that encircles the Taiping Lake Gardens.

I remember the lake gardens well, Lee. I spent a lot of time there when I was stationed in Taiping. Beautiful shot!

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Thank you for the comment Rosie. It is called the rain tree because the shape of the tree makes it look like an umbrella. I think it is your mimosa because someone had posted a photo and I recognized the flower. In Hawaii, it is known as the monkey pod. The trees in the photo are at least a hundred years old which may explain the difference in looks.

Great photos. Is there Spanish Moss on the trees or is the part that looks like Spanish moss part of the rain tree itself?

I really like the green of the trees. Is that moss or some other growth?

Yes mite.
That is moss.

Hi mrsjoe,

Is your mimosa the size of a shrub? I have seen it in Australia. The flower and the leaves are identical to the rain trees. The moss is on the breaches. Those hanging down are ferns.

Hi sw,

The green on the branches is moss. The fronds dangling from the branches are ferns.

Hi Hawk,

Thank you. I think the trees were not so tall then.

Hi akamatt,

Yes, the trees have leaves but the leaves are in the treetops. You can see the leaves of the trees in the background in the top right corner of the photo.
