I've often wondered if having people and characters standing outside of businesses really attract customers, but I assume it does because I have seen it done here too.
It seems in our country, the new year is celebrated more on the eve than on the day itself, although many do watch the Rose Parade and have family dinners and watch football on New Year's Day.
