JUDGE YE

He thumps his bible every night shouting
of fire and brimstone, then he yells even louder
shouting of God's glory, and who he would smite

Sitting in the pews do you wonder like I do
who made him keeper of my soul,
who made him judge over my fate
I read the same words he spews forth
but mine are kinder in work and deed
I see a forgiving God, not one vengeful hate

Down from his lofty perch this evangelist comes
walking the aisles, pointing out to each their sins
while he is committing the biggest of all
not to pastor his flock, but condemning them
he fails to remember the church is not a building
but resides in the heart of each and every man

Silken.....Wow...what great and inspiring words. I have had many judgemental people in my life. Most sadly neglect to look inside themselves and see their own shortcomings. Thou shalt not be judge least ye be judged yourself. My God is a kind and loving God and he has taught me only kindness and humbleness. This is what I try to show others.

Thanks again for your words.

Silken, I know what you mean...In my experience people can identify with a harsh judgmental and even cruel God because they want to act these characteristics out themselves....But when put to the task of being as loving of the enemy, as gentle and kind as Jesus, they quickly admit, "Well Jesus maybe could be that way, but that's too much to ask of ourselves"....Yet they will quickly say, God and Jesus are one and the same....but they don't identify with the Jesus qualities.
