I have given myself the day off And in about an hour you will find me on this little lake next to the complex kayacking. It feels wonderful out there on the water, and once I am out there for awhile with my camera and a bag of bread crumbs, I will have all kinds of waterfowl around me. Okay, I admit it I am a bit of a bird nut. Besides having them in my home, I love watching them, and living close enough to the Everglades I get a rich assortment of them. The white Ibis, and Snowy Egret are two of my favorite. The White Ibis will go by my window early in the morning in groups of 8 or 10 going through the lawn looking for any bugs of worms. It is apparently a rich cornucopia, because they are back almost every morning. We also have these very strange looking ducks. Called Muscovy ducks. I will take a couple of pictures of them and add them to this blog later today. They are strange looking for certain. Northerners I know, do not say they qualify as ducks. LOL |

I love animals and birds too. I used to love to bring bread to the marina and feed the ducks and geese but apparently there is a by-law against it in my city. The city pays two specially trained dogs and their handlers to watch that the geese (not the ducks) do not come into the marinas and parks. If one of these dogs catches someone feeding the geese, the dog will sit at your feet and keep barking until you stop. Then the dog jumps in the water and herds the geese away from shore. It is pretty amazing to watch the whole thing and a lot of people come to the parks and marinas just to watch these dogs working. Someone told me that it is not good for a bird to be eating bread anyway. Bird seed is better for them. Have a nice time.

These Muscovys are elusive this time. Can't find them anywhere near the water. They do have a tendency to root through the garbage, and though I complain, the ducks still have access to it. So I can add a photo of my favorite pair of mud hens. I had stopped on the north side of the lake,, and they are ever curious beasties.
