Languages

I was born in 1950 and for the first tens years of my life English was what I need to learn..
There were no other languages.

From the Sixties to the Seventies.. living in Southern California...I saw the advantages to learning Spanish as a second language.....My logic about learning other languages was always about.... How learning it ...would benefit ME...Becoming Bi-lingual has all kinds of advantage in Southern California.. whether in be in just communication sociailly, job search, or running one's own business.. Spanish was the ticket..

In the mid to late seventies.. my attitude changed...learning a language.. should NOT be about social aspect.. but totally revolve around earning power, following the Big money and job availability.. and I thought.. what a great advantage.... if I could speak Japanese..
Those reasons has held for the rest of my life..
but in the mid to late nineties.. I thought maybe it was better if I learned Chinese..

In 2016 that changed again...following the BIG money...So I'm now thinking... if everything stays the same... I better learn RUSSIAN.

Of course.. I never really learned any language well enough.. to speak fluently.. I took Spanish in High school..So I know about that language more than anything other, except English..
Learning another language was never easy for me.. and certainly wasn't a labor of love.. My mind could never THINK in a different language.. The idea of having to translating everything to and from English.. became burdensome.
I learned that money isn't everything.. and once you learn that...You're destined not to have a lot of MONEY.

I'm not sure how I managed to avoid it but I never took a foreign language class in High School or College. I think I took a class in Logic in college that qualified as a substitute. It was the best class I ever took in college now that I think about it. I did not know then that my career would end up being in information technology and that class prepared me well for that endeavor. But my son took many years of Spanish in college as requirements and he complained perpetually about it. I never heard him speak a single word in the language...LOL My daughter took German and later learned some Japanese. I never understood her motivation for either. I don't think my mind could think in another language either.

How wonderful it would be, to be able to converse with folks in other countries in their own language!!

As we stumble through that process, I think it should make us acutely aware of the challenges faced by past and present immigrants striving to give their families a better life, and for refugees forced to flee their countries ravaged by wars.

Now, there are so many on-line language programs, and cell phone apps to assist in smoothing that process.

So you come around and post on my blog.. with your bull.... after I gave you fair warning..So here's comes the horns..

So maisie...you see I am doing you favor..You get to use not only my English problem against me.. but my profanity problem.. and how you are the victim of it.
How you can convince others.. That anyone who would say such a things.. is a "bad" person.
Convince them.. I don't know anything... Let them join your ranks ...and think how bad I Must be... using such language. How it's just not, in civilized discussion, "politically correct'.

Force me to re--evaluate.. that maybe I shouldn't have said that.. Because it hurts me .. more that it hurts YOU....
Sorry, but but I have already been there and done that.
And my welfare doesn't really matter..here.. couldn't lose it.. because I never had it..
Those that understand it.. need no explanation.. those that don't... no explanation will suffice.
So, let me just say......You're still a F*cking C*nt.
