Losing your Nerve.

One of problem of getting old.. is that there isn't a nerve in our body that doesn't fray. once you start down that path..nerves begin to fray other nerves. we just don't quite comprehend it.. "Split ends" follow down from our hair follicles right to our brain.
WE tend to forget our nervous system..which is the message center and acts like a warning when it goes off. Also has a tremendous effect on our well being, when it doesn't go off.
At our age the warning system goes off. but we have no idea what the warning system is trying to tell us. We think it's about an injury, we don't know but may have experienced.. We think it's about a disease. or something like cancer, that's making it happen..
For most of us it's an unavoidable trauma.
Yet for most of us.. It's just our body telling us we are getting fricken old
.

I was pretty active is sports when I was younger and maintained that through my fifties. I expected some repercussions from the injuries sustained while being over active.. especially knees and ankles. At first I could step on a crack wrong and hurt my ankle.. but it went away pretty quick.. next I hurt my knee and it didn't go away... but most of the time I could live with it. never realizing what the real problem was as to why it didn't heal..but it did get better. I went to a doctor and he thought it was just arthirtiis. so time to move on.. but it got worse and my other knee started to hurt.. but it was different pain location.
I discovered the problem was being exacerbated by my lack of shoe support.
so I solved that and stopped getting worse..but my activity got less and less, because the knee pain, . Then in the last few months, all hell broke lose, and i could barely walk. my legs felt week, my knees even weaker, and my balance was off. . At first I realized my shoe and walking were really bad again exacerbating the pain..so i changed that. but i was confused as to how my leg muscles could become that weak. nothing else really hurt.
So now i believe I have found the reason.. but who knows what will come next..
Everything that happened led to sciatica. without the back pain.

My suggestion is first, make sure your shoes are supporting you properly, do stretching exercises. be careful when something effects your gate.. because, your adjustment is only going to hurt something else.. Don't expect tos olve any problem by just doing one thing.. In fact doing the right thing will sometimes initially make it worse, as your body is already tried making adjustments.

Excellent advice about proper footwear being a good place to start when we have locomotion issues.

I agree~~~~ Double/Double ~~~

Sometimes reading you makes me think I'm in the Twilight Zone. Perhaps it's our Johnson County roots...who knows. I could talk with you for hours on a park bench. We might disagree on what color that bird was, but at the end of the day I think we would conclude it was indeed a bird, probably.

First, I am presently struggling with sciatica myself. I have a lower back pain that simply will not go away. I've read so many articles on back pain, read articles about exercises, what to do, what not to do, watched Youtube videos, you name it. Everything but actually going to a doctor about it. I know, I know. I'm not convinced it's something anybody can really fix frankly. So I suffer, contemplating going for help on Tuesday, but then it rains and Friday seems better and then, well I'll give it 2 more weeks. So here I am 2 years later now.

First, I am a daily walker and I manage about 72,000 - 82,000 steps a week, anywhere between 35 to 40 miles, even in the winter. A few years back now I was having trouble with pain in my toes. The doctor considered an injection but thought I was still a bit away from that and instead told me that I needed a high quality running shoe. She was aware that I was active. She recommended a pair of Hoka's telling me that was my life now. I researched surgery to correct my problem but found out that leads to an unsettling number of situations that get worse than what you start with. So I ruled that out. I ended up with Hoka Bondi 5's at the time (I'm wearing Bondi 7's now). They were expensive, 160 bucks, the most I ever paid for a pair of shoes. But, it managed the pain and I'm still walking, a lot. Frankly without those shoes which are the most comfortable you can possibly imagine, I think I would be using a cane today. Yes, my toes still hurt, but I can function.

As for the back pain? It's so frustrating. I spend a lot of my time now reading about health issues, trying my best, struggling to sleep, worrying about this and that. My daughter tells me I'm in amazing health for my age and I have to admit, I'm better off than just about everyone I know who is even close to my age. But I still don't feel all that great. Getting cataract surgery this year was a fantastic experience for me. No glasses for the first time in 50 years. But I can't tell you the last time I got 7 straight hours of uninterrupted sleep. A sleeping routine just isn't possible for me anymore, it's 3 hours here, 2 hours there - ugly.

HOKA HOKA HOKA... I will never wear anything else. Now if I can only fix this annoying back pain...

I can give you some things to try.
First stretching exercises instead of physical stress.
Lidocaine with muscle rub and Nsaid when it hurts.
Our bodies give us clues we misinterpret as your back pain travels to your legs.
It really goes the other way your legs are causing your back pain. And it all connects to an ass.

I hate taking pills.. so I don't
But taking The Nsaid or IBprofen.. before bedtime really helps with the sleep. The only draw back i found is you may have to wake up more.. because you got to piss more. but maybe that's a good thing.

Don't ask why or how, because I don't have clue.. Use Emu oil. (Walmart, Equate brand $8 a jar 4 oz)
If doesn't work on your Sciatica. but it probably will.... It's still works for everything else..esecially old age skin. Unlike the other stuff...it will not immediately help with any pain.. but it's miracle is that it helps with the healing. I believe it was created by aliens.. because there is no way an Emu was created by evolution! LMAO.

Some people old age is a cross we have to bear. It's an irony that for the most part it's in the "ass" we have to live with!

I think we should sue Johnson County.. If the people in Camp Lejune can do it.. why can't we???? LOL

Jimmy, be very careful with any lidocaine rub because it is also a useful cardiac med. in some cases it can affect certain cardiac rhythms which are unusual but normal for you. Be very careful with any off labeled drugs.

i don't care what doctors say about how safe a drug is.. My belief is that preventive drugs are the worse kind, and overuse of anything can create problems.. That being said any drug that requires long term use. is not good for you. at least that possibility exist. We owe it to ourselves to not use anything that doesn't have an immediate effect. or anything in which there is no "expiration date" for use
Obviously you have a problem with my mentioning the Equate brand of EMU oil..
I original tried Blue Emu. $13 for four ounces and switched to Walmart's brand for $8..I noticed no difference.. And lidocaine is not preventive you use it only when it hurts bad..if it doesn't help stop using it. I take no prescription drugs
That being said there's a huge difference in being cautious and being scared
There's a huge difference in being afraid of dying and doing something that could kill you, Only one of those things you can stop.

You totally missed the entire point but that is expected. I don't know squat about EMU oil but I do know about cardiac drugs. I gave you some information so take or leave it.

there is a diference between a warning and a scare..I wasNOT commenting on your intent about that. but simply Your selectiveness.
my warning would be that all drugs if abuses are bad fo you..that not only includes lidocaine but also ibprophen and NSAId. they should only be used for a direct benefit and not preventative..
there is seldom a difference between generic brands and name brand. but one should know where the drug is coming from..and who's selling it.
I happen to trust Walmart's equate brands but I wouldn't be buying it from a Dollar Store.
