In the Light of Day

Things really look different in the light of day. I am staying with someone who lives in a remote area. Getting to anywhere requires a 20 - 30 min. drive. The quickest way to civilization is via a windy canyon road. The other route is a bit longer and is a combo of highways, city streets and freeway. Yesterday I was on my way back from spending the day at my house and decided on the canyon route. I had been this way before but always after dark with my attention focused on navigating the windy 2 lane road, admittedly driving a bit too fast - but hey, I drive a sports car built for this. I never noticed anything but the road and canyon walls.

What a difference in the light of day enhanced by being stuck between two Cal Trans (state highway) repair tucks, having to drive slow and sane! To my amazement there are houses, ranches, horses, cattle, people, lemon groves and all sorts of other things along the way! I never knew they were there.

Reflecting on this I can not help but wonder how much of life we miss because we are in the dark and driving too fast.
