There Are Still Plenty of Good People Out There

Made it home on schedule - in a rented car.

Seems "old red", the 22 year old Explorer we took against my better judgement, chose to give it up in a cloud of smoke and flood of transmission fluid somewhere between 3000 and 4000 ft. Thanks to a lot of wonderful people who helped out we made it to the camp site only a few hours late. It was quite an adventure including immediate assistance from 2 guys with a fire extinguisher, getting rescued by the town drunk (who was sober at the time though) who drove me to the local market and waited for me so he could drive me back to the car, the 2 "mountain women" who ran a small out post type market who lent me their personal cell phone and offered to feed me for free, riding 40 miles in a CHP car (front seat none the less), renting a car with an American Express Gold Card while looking like Grizley Adam's grandmother and having to pee as soon as the car failed. Sounds like a horrible experience but everyone was so kind and helpful it kind of restored my faith in good folks. that alone was worth it.

the time spent in nature with family was worth it all. Nothing like 2 thirteen year olds waiting at the campground entrance at 10 PM for me and an 8 year old waiting with a huge hug.

After skimming through the past days of blogs I missed sounds like a had it easy.

Details to follow. Right now I need a bath. My cat keeps trying to bury me in the kitty litter.

Good to hear "their are still plenty of good people out there", with the sad things we hear and read in today's society. I am glad you and the children arrived home safe.

Tough luck for grandmother but think of the memories the grandchildren have now to pass along to their children in the future.

The beginning of life, conception..

It's true there are plenty of good people out there, they far outnumber the ones who aren't so good.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

No, I wouldn't have chosen it quite this way but these kinds of things are a good test for keeping our coping skills in place.

After a life time of unplanned adventures I have gotten pretty good at coping and getting out of messes. I'm sure life has "trained" you for the same. It's ties like these when I am thankful for lots of work related conditioning to prioritize needs properly and solve problems.

I'm sure they will remember this as another one of grandma's adventures. The interesting part is that this trip was all about sharing my memories of the high sierra with them.

Seems it is always something when traveling. Dad now that old red was sent off to the happy hunting ground (we had decided that the next problem he had would be it tie for a replacement) no more traveling looking like the Beverly Hillbillies.

Spirit, YOU are good people I suspect a guardian angel keeps close watch on you and your loved ones just because YOU are good people. Enjoy your summer.
Thank you. I try my best but it is hard at times. As for the guardian angles, yes I try believe in them as well as ongoing assistance from loved ones on the other side. This is not the first time in my life they have come to my assistance.

Everyone gets pushed to the exploding point at times. It's hard to contro the anger when people attack us. Sending you positive thoughts, not with the intent that you be perfect but that the negativity does not hurt your feelings so much. The emotions we experience when things get to us are far worse than any responses we may get here. Showing "grace under fire" is the supreme challenge in life. I doubt any of us gets that right all or even most of the time.

They definitely do in my life. Even on here if I think of all of the good folks I have met they far, far outweigh the negatives.

Thank you. I am extremely fortunate that although life brings it's difficulties (as it always does) things work out in the end. I have been so blessed to have good people there when I need them.

Definitely more good people everywhere. Somehow our society focus on the bad ones and things so we need these reminders every so often.
