Entitlement

Entitlement is one of the buzz words of the day. We like to bat it around, usually in a negative, accusing way. The following is an interesting article I ran across on the subject. Surprise, we can all see some of the traits in ourselves, that is if we are honest..

6 Signs You Have An Entitlement Complex

You make unrealistic demands.
Entitled people want the moon, they want it in a specific color, they wanted it 10 minutes ago, and they know you know they wanted it 10 minutes ago. If you make unrealistic demands of people, chances are you have a bit of an entitlement complex going on.
You've been called a bully.

Bully, ruthless, egotistical - have people you loved ever called you these names? It's probably true if so. They're hallmark signs of people who feel entitled.
You don't feel sorry for others.
Not enough money? Should have worked harder. Now feeling well? Tough luck. Can't feed your family? Stop being so poor. Why should my tax dollars have to pay for you? Is this ever your line of thinking? It sounds like you have a sense of entitlement.

You expect others to feel sorry for you.
Not enough money? Please loan me some money! Not feeling well? Come on, give me the day off. Having trouble feeding your family? I've earned the help! You never feel sorry for anyone else but you demand all sorts of help when you're down on your luck.

You have trouble admitting mistakes.
People with entitled tendencies tend to push blame off onto everyone else for everything, even things they know full well they themselves did wrong. It's an ugly personality trait.

You are easily offended.
I'll leave this section to Stephen Fry:
“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so f*cking what

The ones who consider themselves the "Most entitled" are those who sit in Government and bleed the coffers dry.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Unless you are really sick or disabled I'd go with the biblical statement, "You dont work, you dont eat."

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

That they do. Then they accuse the poor and disabled of doing it for the pittance they receive in benefits.

I am offended by many things in our society. However. I don't expect to be compensated for them. I also don't mind giving someone a hand when they are down on their luck but it shouldn't become a family career for them.

There hasn't been so much dissent in my once great country since the anti-war movements in the 1960's. The same people who founded those movements are now teaching your grandchildren at American colleges and universities.

I agree with current unrest being similar to the anti war movement of the 60's. If nothing else they do get our attention and for better or worse make more people think and get involved rather than just going along for the ride.

I have the perfect compensation, although you may want to pass it on it. I have this young man I have been working with recently who showed me that there are some we just can't fix and do not want to support which leaves us with the dilemma of what do we as a society do with them? I'd like to hear some constructive ideas from our politicians on this one other than build a wall.

Know what you mean about being willing to do it ourselves. Part of the reason I am doing so much work in my house is that an older couple who recently lost everything will be moving in when I am done and I am not going to ask them to live with a mess that I would not live with. The younger and able bodied ones I am never concerned about. If they didn't want the mess they were expected to clean it up themselves.

The biggest difficulty with this is that for us in the US at least the government makes complex definitions of what disabled and sick are. The exploiters always finds ways around the "regulations" while the truly needy are not able to jump through all of the hoops required to get what they need.

Example - one of my residents had their SSI discontinued. The reasons and discontinuance are currently being challenged. In the meantime he had no income for 2 months until he could get local housing assistance which is that only.. He is well below the income level needed for food stamps but can't get them becasue he is still viewed as on SSI although he has had no money from them in 11 months. Food has to come from friends or church food pantries and is unpredictable.
