Ugly Ugly Ugly One of the things I found in the back of my storage was a yellowed cardboard box all tied up with twine. It had my address on it in my mother's handwriting. I figured it was something she sent me when she moved out of her house. I opened the box and found it contained 2 of my old dolls from childhood and the disassembled toy cradle I kept them in. I do not remember the dolls but do recall the cradle. The clothes on one triggered the memory of sewing them by hand. I had a whole box of them. I have no idea how one outfit and the ugliest doll I have ever seen survived. Thinking back as best I can I should just be pleased that I was able to sew anything at the age I did. This had to have been done when I was 11 or 12. I must have been learning to sew and using the dolls as a modle. But it is still old and ugly Spiritwoman ^i^ |

I have my last doll I asked for for Christmas when I was 12. Mom asked if I really wanted a doll...I told her I wanted it to keep on my bed. When I opened it it was exactly what I had visualized in my mind. I still have the original clothes but they are extremely fragile and wrapped in tissue paper. I bought another dress years ago that she still wears. I had to have her wig replaced years ago and it is now deteriorating some. One of my granddaughters asked me to move the doll from the room she was sleeping in when they visited in last year...she said it gave her the creeps. Now when I look at that doll I remember her saying that and chuckle. Dolls do look different today.

She may be ugly, but she may also be valuable simply because of her age and condition, lol. I have one doll that was acquired about 15 years ago from my sister. She said it would not replace what she did, but she wanted to get it for me as a token. When she was little, she tore the dress on my pride and joy doll, a Betty bride doll. I was the one punished for crying about it, because as my step dad told me, I should have had it put up out of her reach. I knew better than to say anything, but it was put up...... in a closet cabinet, near the ceiling, on a wall of cabinets with doors. She had opened each door and climbed.... the little monkey! Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

It does. Thinking back it seems all dolls looked pretty much alike back in our day. Today's come in just about every look you can think of. Spiritwoman ^i^

I thought my younger siblings got mine but for whatever reason my mother kept this one over the years. I suspect it was becasue of my sewing clothes for it. Spiritwoman ^i^

I think the learning to sew thing came from being isolated in the country, snowed in most of the winter and being creative. It also involved learning to use the tredal machine which always fascinated me. Spiritwoman ^i^

I loved dolls. But this one looks so stiff...I don't like her face, either.
