This has been coming slowly but surely for about 20 years or so. I enjoy gridiron football both Canadian (CFL ) and American (NFL ) but it is losing ground in a couple areas..... injuries and cost. Not only at the professional level, but also at the middle school, high school, and college level, injuries can be frequent & extensive. The cost of fielding teams at the above mentioned levels is relatively expensive at well. Football (called soccer in N. America) is slowing but surely becoming the sport of choice for many families..... way fewer injuries and less equipment costs. With the advent of indoor soccer leagues, even hockey is beginning to struggle, I think.
