Wow!.....A group of people with doctoral degrees meet for dinner and the most interesting subject you can come up with is postings from SFF?........Sad.....

Unfortunately Skariff, you can request respectfully all you want, but some can only seem to respond by attacking the person posting or deflecting the discussion. I think the greatest causes of divisiveness for our generation are the 24 hour new cycle and social media. They sure seem to promote the polarization of issues. We are definitely an interesting collection of folks.

I for one will miss your invaluable input. Your posts have helped expand my mind - difficult reading at times but well worth the effort. You bring much stability/sanity to the SFF blogs through your informed, reasoned approach. I thank you. I hope you will reconsider but if you decide to leave, may I quote the following - May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. (traditional gaelic blessing) Cheers :- )

Same thoughts from me too Skariff, you'd be a huge miss for many of us here. Besides...if you stop blogging, you will be giving certain people the monopoly...just what they want. They hate and fear competition...just like their "president". So obvious!

I think most of us have thought about leaving this group due to the constant insults and fighting. Years ago almost everyone wrote blogs but now only a few people are brave enough to bother. Once I was on someone else's computer and showed them a little of our blogs and they thought I was crazy to belong to a group where everyone was fighting. I'm always happy to see a blog from you so hope you don't leave.

You nailed it. The intelligence of his post is to reflect like a mirror the certitudes of some with all those attributs including the "contempt" to which they are fixed, without metabolizing anything they are writing, unless it's one sided. Internet is also a venting place on top of that. If that needs to be mentioned, I'm pretty sure his friends are not the arrogant snobs, not a chance. Great post! it worked!

I can see your point but to an extent it depends on subject matter (I think). For example, the Bible can make for difficult reading as spiritual truths are often difficult to convey hence the use of metaphors to aid understanding; even then we often fail to grasp the intended message/meaning. I am not familiar with many of the issues Skariff addresses/questions and because I generally read to understand, I often make the effort to do so even it means plunging into unfamiliar 'formal' text/reading matter. The unexpected bonus is my brain cells are slowly awakening from their stupor, my mind stretched/stretching in yet another absorbing direction. Skariff is who he is - what is wrong with the challenge to raise ourselves to becoming better informed people/individuals in this instance?

I question Skariff's motives in posting this blog......I can see using this site as some kind of an example of Sociological phenomena, but to then post it in a blog on the site, citing the academic achievements and the entertainment factor......that's passive aggression. There are several men on this site who regularly and habitually display Passive Aggression, shooting from behind a facade of cultural normalcy......Now we can add another to the list.....I doubt if any of them are aware of it.......

You misunderstand.......What I said about shooting from behind a facade of cultural normalcy, I was referring to the men on this site who pretend that their point of view is correct because they are normal and the other person is not......They say that they are married and we're not, they are the normal or nice ones and others are not.......they say we don't know the difference between a woman and a lady......or the recent constant, passive aggressive comment..."What's wrong with you?" Skariff hasn't done that before, but this blog really makes me question his motives for posting this blog. Why tell us about his dinners with his friends.....why set up the scene that way and include the educational achievements of his companions and tell us he presented our blogs and comments as a demonstration of some phenomena.........If that's how he gets his jollies, that's his business......I'm wondering why he came back here and told us about it. The only reason is to make himself feel superior and to insult us. Skariff uses our words as an example and demonstration of how insulting people are and then tells us...........An elaborate insult in itself. He complains that SFF people insult each other and then concocts this insult.....Like he's trying to win an insulting contest.......his facade of normalcy is his description of a scenario of cultural normalcy......Yeah, I was just having dinner with my super intelligent friends where I humiliated you.....but don't worry, I didn't use your name.......That's a passive-aggressive insult if I ever heard one. I can't see any other motive for posting this blog than as an insult.....can you?

I'd hate to see you leave Skariff ... your well thought out blogs are one of the reasons I'm back. That and the fact that I'm curious as to who is still here shovelling the same dodo?
