I don't think anyone is saying it's the guns "fault" as if we are quarrelling children trying to fix blame on the other kid.......There is however strong correlations between gun availability and death rates.......To suggest there is no correlation would be absurd. There are statistics going back a long way......Maybe have a look at Australia's experience.

As for blaming cars........It's not really a valid comparison. Guns are weapons....cars are transportation......Guns are manufactured for the sole purpose of killing, while cars get you from here to there. Anyways, there are many laws and safety features applied to cars and they have evolved over time.....Lots of them. Maybe gun owners should have to buy insurance......

Sure Maisie......let's re-focus that lens on a failure and ignore the successes Australia has had in ameliorating their gun issues. You seem to think that in order to institute some gun regulations, there must first be a guarantee of 100% sucess.

That's unrealistic.....Let's compare gun regulations with car safety regulations They are ongoing and innovative. When we were children we didn't have car safety seats or even belts or harnesses. Children kept getting smashed against windshields.......When cars first became popular, there were no safety regulations........They didn't all get put in place at once and they weren't 100%
successful in preventing deaths and maiming. Now we have governments considering outlawing texting while driving.......It's always evolving.

What I don't understand is that you choose doing nothing over beginning to do do something.......Australia's gun issues didn't disappear completely, but they haven't had a mass shooting since 1996. Their gun deaths are way down all over the charts, including suicides. There was a fear that the number of home invasions would rise, but they have actually gone down.

I live in a hunting area.....A lot of my neighbours hunt, but their guns are all locked in metal cabinets and the ammunition is in another locked metal box......If anyone went to a home ans saw a gun out of a cabinet, they would immediately phone the police. This is the situation in most developed countries.......Guns are not at hand for when owners lose their temper or have an episode of paranoia......That in itself makes a big difference.....perhaps somewhere to start down the road of slowing down this mad orgy of gun-fire and the resulting drama.

What a huge number of shootings in the U.S. and the number goes up every year. There is no easy fix as there are more guns out there now than there are people. I think the U.S. will eventually have to ban all guns except for the police and the military. Why don't other countries have so many shootings? Maybe it's because people in other countries are not allowed to carry guns around.

If hero citizens witness a shooting and then grab their guns and chase and engage in gunfire with the shooter, when the police arrive how can they tell who the bad guy is?
