Civil discourse I note once again that often in these blogs, when a social or political topic comes up, no matter how politely one disagrees or even offers up a different viewpoint, there are some (NOT ALL!) who can't remain civil and express their differences politely without insulting the other person. At what age does senility usually set in? My played better than this. GBU all, Gavin |

How can one be civil in the face of gross stupidity?

I just read your responses to Bobbih77021. Fantastic responses. I would have echoed that on the blogs in which they appear but Bobbih {although he denies it} has his blogs open to "his friends only". The real bob and I are on the denied list. GBU, Gavin

LOL ET! Well, it's the way intelligent people, (which includes you) share views and opinions. GBU, Gavin

Hi Gavin. I like to hear what people have to say whether they agree with me or not. I think the discourse usually is a result of someone being forced to look into the mirror after reading something they would rather not. LOL U may be on to something here. GBU, Gavin

Thanks ET. Perhaps you're right. Would be nice if people could simply agree to disagree at times. Maybe that's not possible in SFF? I hope not! GBU, Gavin

How can one be civil in the face of gross stupidity? And I don't object to stupidity as long as the person remains polite. But maybe you have a point, because the only GROSS stupidity I notice on the blogs is when someone gets nasty and insulting after another person simply expresses an opposing view. GBU, Gavin

Shucks Bob, now I have to look up "exuberant"! LOL GBU, Gavin

TY for the tip Coach! GBU, Gavin

Where do you think they got the idea for the movie Grumpy Old Men? As I was taught years ago while working an internship in a nursing home - people age as they have lived. Personality doesn't change, only becomes more intense. I think I will go back to playing in the mud with my grand kids. It's a happier place. Spiritwoman ^i^

I c Bob. But I don't think it's any of my business. Both of you were civil to me and others here, even tho I thought you were mostly just teasing each other. Hope things become friendlier for both of you. GBU, Gavin

Hi Rainier. It's not hard at all. I bet if you think back, you'll remember doing it quite often yourself. I know you and I have held opposing views in the past, but I don't recall either of us becoming nasty or denigrating. And I don't object to stupidity as long as the person remains polite. But maybe you have a point, because the only GROSS stupidity I notice on the blogs is when someone gets nasty and insulting after another person simply expresses an opposing view. GBU, Gavin

Well, if I was civil to you it must be because you caught me on an off day. I can't abide anyone who disagrees with me. GBU, Gavin
