Justice For Cecil--The Lion

They all signed the petition--thousands upon thousands of people demanding justice for Cecil, killed by Dr. Walter Palmer, an American dentist.

Palmer carried out the cold-blooded killing during a bow-hunting trip in Zimbabwe earlier this month.

Cecil, the beloved star of Zimbabwe's popular safari tours, was shot with a bow and arrow by Palmer, who paid thousands of dollars for the opportunity, and according to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, neither the land owner nor Palmer had a permit or quota to hunt down the beloved lion Cecil in such a cruel way.

Cecil was no stranger to tourists. He was a popular figure in and around the park.

"It took more than 40 hours for Cecil to die after he was shot. A professional hunter eventually tracked down the injured animal, shot him and removed his head and skin as trophies. Reports say Cecil was lured off Hwange National Park, baited with an animal carcass.

Those have since been confiscated by the authorities as evidence.

Locals involved in the hunt, including the professional guide the dentist hired as well as the owner of the land which hosted the hunt, may now face poaching charges. They are due in court Aug. 6."

"Zimbabwean police reportedly said they were "looking for Palmer," but the dentist says he has not been contacted by any authorities there or in the US about the death of the lion. He says he will "assist them in any inquiries" should they get in contact.
In a statement issued Tuesday amid an uproar over the killing, Palmer said he thought "everything about this trip was legal and properly handled and conducted."
He added that he "had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt."

Reports say Cecil was lured off Hwange National Park, baited with an animal carcass, shot with a bow and arrow, and then tracked for nearly two days before finally being killed with a gun.

The fact there is such a public outcry might indicate some justice for the innocent - I hope so anyway. Humans can be the least noble of creatures.

Bumpkin,
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, it is very sad. We should not kill animals in the name of sport. Have a nice time.

Lilium,
Thank you so much for coming forward to express your views on the crime committed by the hunter. The hunter himself is a human being but could he claim himself as noble one? There are people in this world who are not concerned about such killings. You may read all the comments posted on this blog of mine so far in order to feel the trend.

You are more concerned about this lion than you are about the 630,366 abortions performed in the United States this year. So very sad.
[Could not understand what made you sad? Is it the killing of the majestic lion in the name of sport or the alleged abortions performed in your country? I have no problem whatever it may be as you are entitled to your views. However, I shall request you not to twist the topic.
Meantime, I may paste here a headline that has appeared on the Huffington Post UK that reads as under:
"The petition reached 670,000 signatories by Thursday morning."
Therefore, it will appear to you from this headline that I am not alone concerned for Cecil, the Lion but many thousands more and the figure is multiplying!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a nice time.

Each and every death is very sad . It is more so when such death is caused by intentional killing in the name of sport.

Delighted to see you back here on my blog page, earthytaurus. It makes me very happy to read you here. You have all the right to keep your judgement on this one reserved until such time you could be sure on the matter. I have no problem with your decision However,I feel that the dentist should go back to Zimbabwe to clear his good name if he is innocent as claimed by him. Moreover, he did not say that the greedy guide might have misguided him. The dentist knew what he was doing with the bow and arrow.
Have a wonderful week.

Mrs.Joe,
Thank you so much for your considerate comments on the matter that you have left here on this blog page of mine. I am in full agreement with what you have mentioned in response to the post. I however feel that the hunter knew very well what he was exactly going to do in this particular case and as such, he must face consequence of his action, which was not only inhuman but also illegal too. Thanks again for your passing by my post as usual. Stay well and happy always. Best wishes.

Boogie,
II am very happy to read your comment on the blog as it speaks how kind and compassionate you are. As I said above that each death is sad, I may also add that we must not try to justify killings under any circumstance unless such killings cannot be avoided for the safety of other living beings. I believe that just like a human being an animal has every right to live its full life. Have a nice weekend. Best wishes.

Mary Ann,
Your comments on my post will make many readers ponder upon why some people like to kill innocent animals like Cecil for fun and sport by spending so much money even if they are filthy rich! I do not know how much an American dentist earns! May be his patients are required to pay hidden charges also so that he could meet such expenses! I may be wrong too. Whatever may be, words fail to condemn his actions. You should not feel ashamed for this hunter's criminal act as because he happens to be an American! You will come across such people everywhere in the world. Only difference is that some people can spend so much money for an illegal kill, some other people can not meet such a huge expenditure for doing the same thing. Thanks for passing by and leaving such wonderful and thought rendering comments on my post that I appreciate so much. Have a nice weekend. Best wishes

lulugravy,
I agree one hundred percent with what you have said In respect of us who buy meat from the super market regularly.
Also agree with what you have said about the trophy hunters. You know better than me about them as you have personal experience with them. True, they are a disgusting breed! Palmer seems to be no different. He knew exactly what he was doing and therefore must be punished for his illegal as well as inhuman act.
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate. Best wishes.

Earthytaurus.,
I was sure that you can not be in agreement with big game hunts. I do not however think the hunter, being human, is more at a disadvantage than the hunted (animal). A human is always many steps ahead of the poor animal. No, the lion will not discriminate between the two when he is hungry. But the lion would not kill even an animal for fun or sport. You know a lion only kills when it is hungry. That was the difference between Palmer and Cecil and sometimes human conscience may not work perfectly.
Have a nice weekend!

Earthytaurus,
I have no problem with your views. You are entitled to it. Moreover. I would not like to enter into an argument with anyone who could always find something to justify such senseless killings.!!

Thanks for stopping by and for your comments. I believe that there will be no proper justice for Cecil. It appears to me that many of us do not care for the endangered animals.
Have a wonderful week, Rubi.

Then ask the man if you can to go back to Zimbabwe to clear his name if he is innocent.
We are however sure that he will not go there in his lifetime.
We all know that a killer always fears the law.
This Killer is no different.

Outlawing the 'sport' may be a good idea in itself. But like tobacco and alcohol it brings in revenue for the country and all businesses concerned. Sadly money talks, and it's all about the money. Sigh ......

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

    I hunted as a young person...we ate what little I got...did I enjoy it? yes...I did then...but, I grew out of it...but I agree...this was not hunting...this was setting an animal up to be butchered...for a trophy
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. Joe, I do not mind if you had hunted as a young person for consumption. It also pleases me to learn that you grew out of it. Thanks again for agreeing with many of us that senseless killing of animals for trophy is not hunting.
