Wish, I Had Listened...

WISH, I HAD LISTENED ....

I have learned not by chance but by the hard way what happens to one eventually if one skips proper meals regularly for reasons that may not have any basis at all. Yes, I skipped my proper breakfast and Lunch as I could never woke up from sleep in the morning before 11 AM.
I used to take a piece of brown bread and jam along with a cup of strong tea as breakfast. Sometimes, I used to skip lunch totally if the part time maid failed to come to prepare meals for me as I did not like to go out for taking lunch in a restaurant.

Initially I did not feel any problem for my irregular eating habits that I developed after I retired from active job and started to live alone in my own house. However, the practice of skipping a complete breakfast and lunch made me weak gradually. It caused long- term effects on my body that contributed to the development of some chronic conditions requiring medical attentions

As mentioned at above, I have learned the hard way what happens if we skip meal intentionally for various reasons! Here are some medical conditions that may happen to us for skipping meals:

It may cause our blood sugar levels drop and as a result our bodies may experience a shortage of energy. We are all aware of that food intakes supply our bodies with the fuel that a body needs to run properly! Glucose is needed for optimal blood brain activity as well as for normal functioning of all the organs of a human body. Here under mentioned what may happen within a few hours (within four to six hours of our last food intake) if we skip meals :

The brain starts experiencing fuel shortage.
We become tired, sluggish, moody and irritable.
Our cognitive functions are affected, and we might have difficulty with attention, memory, concentration and general mental performance.

Here, it is imperative for us to know that if our sugar levels fluctuate between highs and lows then we must take proper corrective steps as per advice of our Doctors so that our dieting efforts are not compromised. Our skipping proper meals may contribute towards development of diabetes in later life as the insulin gets disturbed.

It is now known that skipping meals slows the metabolism down and as a result it can not break down food when it is provided with it as it finds it difficult to kick in and therefore, the food is bound to be transferred into fat more rapidly and get deposited in the places where we may not like to see it! A human body in starvation mode endeavors to find new source of energy and as a result, our metabolism starts transforming fat into energy. The action may sound good but it can result in subsequent serious health conditions as follows:

• nausea
• constipation
• fatigue
• kidney stress
• low blood pressure

Readers may like to know if I had developed all such adverse health conditions as I followed irregular eating habits and skipped proper meals frequently month after month. Yes readers, I have had all these adverse health conditions except nausea and as a result I had to pass time in the hospital under the watchful eyes of the doctors who treated me and then sent me back home with a bag full of instructions to follow!

I wish I had listened to my one well-wisher who lives far away from me on an island asking me repeatedly not to skip meals, specially the Breakfast!!

For further information on the subject, readers may kindly look for it on the net or consult medical journals. Happy Reading.

Good advice. I spent a good deal of my youth eating minimally and skipping a lot of meals so I would not gain weight. The result is a permanently sluggish metabolism. At this stage in life I eat one full meal a day and light snacks the rest of the day. My struggle is keeping the small feedings healthy instead of tasty.

[[BArcher,
What a pleasure to see you back here on my blog page after a considerable time. Equally amused to read the post left by you there on for me to read .Thanking you so much for passing by my blog and also for the post though sound funny yet really meaningful too. Archer, I had to cook while I was in West Berlin and Hamburg in the year 1976 for few months. I had to shop there too. I may say that shopping though amusing to some rather many but tiresome to me. To me shopping is an art ! But I have failed to be such an Artist. I am in better health now and thank my creator for keeping me alive and kicking. Stay well and remain cheerful always

Interesting. Glad to hear you're now better informed/aware after the fact; yes there is much harm we unwittingly do to ourselves and it can take a crisis to open our eyes. Can relate in part - experienced hypoglycaemia during a particularly turbulent period (loss of appetite) but then again, eating food while emotionally upset may not be advisable either.

Happy to read from you here, spiritwoman. Thanks for the comments also. I always wanted to gain weight but could not reach even near the goal. You seem to be a wise lady! What you are doing now to remain healthy makes sense. But again, I do not claim to be a person who knows all about nutrition! I knew nothing about nutrition in the past but now I am trying to pick up facts from various sources!
Wish you all the Best

Thank you so much for your comments that would be useful to all who neglects taking healthy foods and also skip meals without knowing its consequence. The health crisis has taught me many things and I am careful now about everything that may cause me harm! Wish you all the best. Stay well and happy, lilium.

Well many times I grab 'quick fixes' and they are not always good .....

Hermitinthecity,
Dear friend, grabbing “quick fixes" once or twice or more may not do any harm but it must not be habit under any circumstance!

Lisztomania,
You are absolutely correct. I learned everything the hard way. My health condition further aggravated due to taking powerful Aspirin along with another blood thinner that were prescribed by my cardiologist after the heart attack I suffered before a year and half. I smoke no more.
Thanks Liszt for stopping by my blog and leaving a meaningful comment for us to read and ponder too. Wish you and your family a joyous New Year. Take care of yourself.

Roxy, you are absolutely correct. I am listening to my body now though it is too late. Yet. I felt to put up a blog here on this important matter so that others may not do the same mistake as i have done by neglecting my body.I have never cared about my health conditions.Being one of the top most bank executive, I had to work from 8 AM to 7 pm most of the times until I retired from my job. Anyway , it is useless now to ponder on it. I thank God for saving me.

Wishing you all the best for the upcoming new year, and hope that all your dreams come true in2016.
Have a nice time. Take care and stay cheerful always, Mary Ann.
