We have such a bamboo garden spread over five acre of hilly land called ‘Bambusetum’ at Sholoshor, Chittagong, owned by the Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFR),and was established in the year 1972-1973. It is open for everyone to visit like other Bambusetums located in different parts of the world.

This is a unique Bamboo Garden where the Institute planted different kinds of Bamboos collected from various parts of the world!

A visitor will be simply amazed to see the varieties of Bamboos planted there while walking through the garden!

You may stand erect in complete amazement in front of a bush finding a bamboo that has surrounded itself with thorny vines.

If you ask any one working in this garden about the purpose for which this kind of bamboo is used, he will simply look at you first and then explain politely that if anyone plant this kind of Bamboo around his home, then he would not have to erect wall or other kind of fence to make the compound as impregnable as fort.

He may also like to tell the name of this particular kind of bamboo! It is called ‘Kata (Thorn) Bamboos’ by them!

Let us find out what other types of bamboos that is available here in this unique garden!

The other species available in the garden are Borak, Biskata, Mirtinga, Bethua, Konok Kaich, Tetua, Choy, Makla, Farua, Korjoba, Mitinga, Baizza, Shwarna, Hedge, Brandisi, Pencha, Ora, Bembra, Lathi, Kali, Tendu or zigzag, Kala, Muli, Dolu, Thai, Rengun, Tolonda, and Wappi etc.

hello hiramhankwilliam,
Thank you so much for your decent words, William. You are absolutely correct about the survival capacity of Bamboos! Once planted, it continues to thrive both in winter and summer! Thanks again and have a nice weekend.

I did not know there were so many.

Bamboo grows very nicely in Vancouver, British Columbia.
I see it quite often around private homes.

Looks to meas if all the same variety.

Hello Rentier,
Bamboo can grow just about anywhere. No wonder, you can see it around private homes where you live. Depending on what species of bamboo is trying to sprout, it can grow in sub-tropic areas as well as in places as cold as Iowa. It may look alike to you, but it has many varieties. Just compare the photographs of two varieties, and then you can see the differences between the two!
Thanks Rentier for taking interest in the blog . I appreciate. Best wishes.
